To answer your question, I need a little more info. What model, and about how old. Different models and different years use different transmissions and hence different hydro dump levers. The model # would be great. It usually starts with 169 and has 4 numbers after it. (i.e. 169xxxx)

Does the engine have a set of points? The magnetto coil may be bad or the switch that shuts the engine down may be letting the spark go directly to ground.Just some ideas...Good luck
