automatic/robotic lawn mowers?

Do any of you have one and if so would you recommend them? Thinking of getting one but not sure if they are just a bit of a gimmick.
Apparently they are safe as the blades stop if they collide with something and also you dont have to dispose of the clippings as it mulches it.

I always worried about the neighborhood kids picking it up and running off with it.

Also, you have to bury perimeter wire like you would for a wireless dog fence. An edger will do this.

Is there a robotic lawn mower that will cut your lawn by itself?

There is a product out there called Lawnbott. It is actually really cool. It leaves its docking/charging station to cut your grass and is kept in check by a burried wire, similar to that of an invisible fence for a dog. When the unit gets low on batteries it finds its docking station and recharges. After that it goes back out and continues. You could actually spend more time watching it, then you would have if you were out there cutting the grass yourself.

You have been hired by an organisation with a large lawn, a robotic lawn mower and a part-time gardener. They ?

Do continue. It was just getting interesting.

Can more automation/robots replace cheap illegal immigrant labor?

Should we as Americans invest in illegal immigrants doing menial jobs at low pay or invest in
automation and robots to do those jobs. Which is cheaper in the long run and more encriching to a first world
society like America?

I feel like we are regressing to the pre-industrial revolution era by making Americans accept
the fact that its cheaper to hire an illegal immigrant to mow your yard then to have a robotic
lawn mower do it for you.

There is a trend towards replacing human labor with automation, but of course, the most expensive workers are displaced, first. It saves more money for business to replace a welder at an auto plant with a robot, or a tech support person with a web page.

From the business standpoint, I think business will do what is economically most advantageous, so if a robot is cheaper than an illegal immigrant, that change will be quickly adopted. However, I think robots still have a long way to go for tasks where adaptability and judgement is required, such as removing a roof without damaging the existing house.

Are we regressing? I don't think so. I don't think of human labor, legal or not, displacing machine labor.

Robomow® requires a one time simple set-up, which can be easily done by anyone. A wire is laid around the outer edges of the lawn, and attached to the surface of the lawn with pegs every few meters. The wire and pegs are supplied with the Robomow®. The wire is connected to a small battery powered current source called Perimeter Switch (also supplied in the box). Typically the wire will be covered by grass and become unnoticeable in a matter of 2-3 weeks. Robomow® recognizes the wire using a special sensor, and makes sure it always stays inside the designated area.
