im tring to get into lawn mower racing and i need help building one i got a mtd type and im not sure what year it is its a older type.i would like to know how to build it fromscratch.
this depend,s on the engine manufacture , displacement , & rated hourse power.......older MTD model,s over 5 H.P. usually used a brigg,s & stratton engine......now....depending on how far you want to go......simple thing,s ...like removing the govenor will allow top R.P.M.....but don,t expect much engine life.....many internal modification,s can be made....like...milling the deck , milling the head , boring the cylinder to accept a larger, more high compression piston , installing a competition cam shaft, porting both intake & exhaust port,s,installing larger valve,s & seat,s.....straight exhaust , larger carburetor/or alcohol block........like I said.....many mod,s can be done approaching junior dragster type engine,s......drive train modification,s should also be considered....as well as tire,s , etc. ........good luck!

I am 13 years old,but i have been around cars and engines all my life, so don't think i'm one of these stoopid tennagers just tryng to build it just to destroy it. I have an older rear engine snapper riding mower that i am wanting to turn in to somewhat of a racing mower. Not to go out and race or anything, but i want it to go pretty fast because i have quiet alot of land, but i don't want to spend a whole bunch of money to do it, so if you have any suggestions please tell me!!!!
since you are not stupid but you are a kid I say ask somewhere else. Do you like bicycles?

im 13 years old and i want to race lawn mowers!
Haha one of my dad's friends actually races them and I know there are certain requirements that they have to meet and one of them (i'm pretty sure) so that should narrow it down a bit but I would suggest something hydrostatic and maybe a John Deere although I don't know the speed but I know that is a good brand!

I have an older John Deere with a Kohler 12.5 ohv engine. What are some inexpensive ways to increase performance of this. this is just a regular, manual lawn tractor.
One easy way would be to change the pulleys. Put a bigger pulley on the engine and smaller one on the transmission.
What type of mower is best to buy but not extremely expensive, and modifying is another question? any help?
Murray. Remove the cutting deck and make sure its a 22hp engine. Put a CAI on it for a honda civic, and swap the transmission with a honda motorcycle tranny. Youll be popping wheelies and doing about 40mph

Visionary. Pathbreaking. These athletes race around dirt fields in their tractor mowers living the dream -- that one day their proud organization moniker (USLMRA) will be linked with that of their heroes (NASCAR), and not the more commonly heard and decidedly less lofty, IDIOTS.
