Three things are necessary for a gasoline engine to start. They meet in the combustion chamber during compression of the cylinder:

1. Gasoline 2. Air 3. Spark

If any ONE of these three is not there, IT WON'T !!!
(START)

The spark plug may be too old or fouled. You can remove and clean the old one, get a new one if necessary.

The air filter may need changing if old and clogged. Some types can be removed and cleaned.

Before trying to start it, make sure there is oil in the crankcase, but do not overfill it. Also make sure there is gas in the gas tank and THAT THE GAS TANK HAS ITS LID SCREWED ON PROPERLY.

If you are willing to get down and dirty with doing this, it is all you need to know except for tightening loose connections and the like, often a problem with vibrating machinery.

If you still can't figure it out, you need someone who is not a mechanical klutz to lend a hand.

No one ever trained me, and I never saw a lawn mower problem I could not fix.

Anyone else can do equally well. Maybe even better.

I just don't understand how anyone with even a casual understanding of the constitutional limitations on the power of the federal government can justify stealing money from taxpayers to pay for other peoples cars. This is truly fiscal madness on an unprecedented scale.

Motor sounding noise

I am 13 years old,but i have been around cars and engines all my life, so don't think i'm one of these stoopid tennagers just tryng to build it just to destroy it. I have an older rear engine snapper riding mower that i am wanting to turn in to somewhat of a racing mower. Not to go out and race or anything,but i want it to go pretty fast because i have quiet alot of land, but i don't want to spend a whole bunch of money to do it, so if you have any suggestions please tell me!!!!

my lawn mower starts and will stay running if you let it till the gas runs out but it makes this squeaking noise very loud and high pitched. like something is stuck i took it apart and looked at it nothing thats not suppose to be there is there? im thinking its the magnet but i don't work on lawn mowers i work on semi-trucks . any thoughts or help would be great thanks.

Sounds like the recoil starter is not disengaging or the engine brake is draging on the flywheel. Remove the starter assembly and free it up. Shoot it with WD-40. While you have it off look at the engine brake. When you squeeze the handle it should be clear of the flywheel.
