my murry lawn mower want start any suggestions?

Its not turning over at all and its not the battery. I just put an new air filter on gas filter, oil change and spark plug.


Near the starter solenoid, theres a small wire that runs from the battery ( hot side) to the ign switch. Theres a small inline fuse that sometimes blows out, try checking/changing this. Are the battery connections clean/tight? How is the battery cable condition? Any cracks/openings/loose connectors? If it was running before and not now, its doubtful its a saftey switch.

My lawn mower I use to beat on, maybe does 15mph? I will see tomorrow.

i have a murry lawn mower powered by a 5.5 hp tucumsia its spitting oil out of the dipstick tube at the base?

how can i fix this issue?


This is a common problem with Tecumseh engines. You need to replace the little rubber seal at the end of the dipstick tube, where it meets the engine. That simple. You can get one through your local small engine shop, or try Tecumseh on their website.
DO NOT USE ANY SORT OF GLUE AS ABOVE ANSWERS HAVE SUGGESTED AND THIS IS NOT AN OVERFILLING RELATED PROBLEM. Just replace the seal.
I've seen this problem many times and fixed it the way I have explained here every time. It works.

I have a 6hp murry lawn mower which has a plunger on the side of carb. to prime eng. but it's not getting hard

before the prime knob would get hard being filled with gas but now it feels empty and I can't get it to fill up and I guess may also be the reason that the motor won't stat running but for a second after putting tiny bit of gas in thraot of carb. ??? thanks...........


yea u need to check ur gas lines to make sure their not cracked, check the bulb because u may not have to replace it, and check carb gasket... if their are any signs of cracking in any of em, replace them... whats happening is somewhere air is getting in and displacing the gas, not allowing for a good suction...

    Murray is my '84 red lawn tractor. He's seen a lot of action in his long lifetime, but alas, isn't the sprightly shiny red hot-rod he used to be. Almost every time he cuts the grass now, something breaks down or falls off, and due to my extreme lack of maintenance skills, I spend most of the mowing time, doing a Macgyver on Murray. Meh. For example... Murray's battery is flat. In fact, I took the battery out a few weeks ago to get it charged but keep forgetting to borrow the charger from my dad-in-law. So I jump start Murray with the people-mover, but a spring-clip on the jumper lead is broken, and I forgot to mention, Murray's starter switch is long gone... To cut a long story short (too late), I have to hot-wire Murray with one hand and hold the jumper cable on the terminal with the other (not an easy feat).
