What lawn tractors and mowers use kawasaki engines?



John Deere was the first to use them. Now many companies use them including Cub Cadet. They are very smooth and quiet compared to most other brands of motors.

hit a stump with my cub cadet, kawasaki lawn mower. nothing look bent but it will not start. help!?



You probably broke the shear key that is in the flywheel. It is designed to break when you hit a stump. You will need to take it in for service and have that checked and replaced.

The shear key is a softer metal than the crankshaft. The key is made soft so it breaks before damage happens to the keyway or the shaft.

The shear key keeps the flywheel in the proper spot and keeps the engine properly timed. So even if it shears part way the timing can be too far off for the engine to run.

Why does my John deere riding lawn mower with a 12.5 Kawasaki engine only run well with the choke fully on.?

I cannot find an adjustment screw on my Kawasaki 12.5 hp engine and it only runs well on full choke and when you idle it down it surges and runs poor. Any ideas?


Trouble shoot from simple to complex first. 1)make sure that you have a clean air filter,2)enpty float bowl(bottom of carb, if water is in there it won't let gas flow right.) 3)check to make sure that spring return for carb/choke is working.
I have been working on small engines for years and I find that taking the steps outlined will fix 90% of problems. Good luck.
