Husqvarna 24hp Riding Lawn Mower Idles Erratically?

I have a Husqvarna (YTH2448) 24hp riding lawnmower that is giving me problems. When in drive, the engine lopes. When I engage the mowing deck it stops and the idle speed picks up, but when I have the speed/acceleration down low and mowing deck unengaged, it sounds like it's about to shut off. I've changed spark plugs (has 2), new fuel filter, changed the oil filter, cleaned air filter, vacuumed any debris out from around the motor and still have the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the carburetor. The ones I'm familiar with have 2 idle set screws. One for low idle, one for power. sounds like the low idle needs adjusting. If you do decide to play with the settings, 1) mark the screw head and carburetor before doing anything so you know where you started. and 2) keep track of the number of turns you give it. Pen and paper are a real good idea. Turn a quarter turn at a time. Start counter-clockwise.

how much to sell my lawn mower for?

It's a 2006 Husqvarna riding lawn mower that i paid $2500 for new. it needs a new battery but other than that it's fine, has a 48" deck, i'm looking to sell it now but was wondering how much i could get for it?

which model # is it? i know the 20hp 46" deck at lowes is currently going for $1599 new and the 23hp 48" deck model is selling for $1799. i know there are larger models or ones with more bells and whistles but this should give you an idea of what to expect. also depends on how many hours are on it.

riding lawn mower?

How many HP do you guys suggest for a riding mower to cut a 1/2 acre of lawn, the yard has alot of rolling hills with a few fairly steep climbs.I was thinking Husqvarna, what do you think?

Husqvarna makes the Craftsman mowers. MTD makes Cub, White, Troy-Built, Yard man, Yard Machines, Bolens, and the new Toro tractors. The John Deeres in Lowes and Home Depot are made to last 250 hours and be tossed. That is all the "discount" brands.

If you are looking for a mower go to a dealer, even if its John Deere. The dealer can service the machine after the sale. Most will even deliver for free. They know the machines and the feature that will work for your conditions and situation in your yard. You are going to talk to someone who knows exactly what they are talking about, and not someone who will be in paint tomorrow.

I would recommend a Snapper of a Simplicity. Simplicity has a mower called the Regent that is 18 HP with a 38" deck, and sells for $1999. You are not going to find many machines under 15 HP.

buying a new 23-35 hp riding lawn mower....suggestions?

Have considered Snapper, John Deere, Husqvarna,
how do you rate these for overall dependability, and performance ?
Other brands to consider ????

The brands you mention are fair homeowner brands. However if you are going for the higher horsepower machines look at some commercial units. Such as Toro, Scag, Wheelhorse, and Bunton just to name a few.

Safety shut-offs on riding lawnmowers: do manufacturers need to re-visit their designs?

Don't go all crazy on me yet, there is a valid reason for this.

I'm a tiny woman (5'3'', 100 lbs) and its pretty much impossible for me to start my new John Deere 100 series riding lawn mower because of the switch in the seat that shuts the mower off if a certain amount of weight isn't on the seat. Because of how far the brake needs to be pushed in to get it started even with the seat in full forward position in order for me to push it in, my butt ends up lifting slightly off the seat thus reducing the pressure on the switch enough so the mower won't start. Luckily, I have a 6'3'' husband to mow the lawn for me. As a 23 year old non-physically disabled adult I should be able to use a lawnmower though.

Basically the only way around this is to simply disable the switch. What's the point of installing them on all mowers if people disable them anyway? They're not like trigger locks on guns because any adult, regardless of weight or stature has the ability to unlock one. You can still use the gun provided you have the key for the lock. I can't use my lawnmower period unless I can figure out how to disable the switch without voiding the manufacturer warranty.

I'm from a family of very small Eastern European people (I'm one of the tallest) and pretty much all of my biological relatives have had similar problems with mowers of various brands with this switch installed. Even my dad who is about my height and weighs about 140 lbs but has shorter legs had so much trouble with his Husqvarna right after he bought it that he ripped out the switch in a fit of frustration. The guy across the street from me even says has the same problem with his zero-turn too.

I know its to protect children (and brainless, litigious adults) but I know people who have kids and have still disabled the switches on their mowers because of the same problem I have; they can't use the mower if they don't disable it. What good is a child safety feature if it blocks out the adult in the house from using the product because of simple physics anyway? Manufacturers need to either make brake pedals adjustable or adjust the sensitivity of the switches. I'd recommend the latter.

It doesn't seem right that lawnmower designers are forgetting a large segment of the population when they build these safety features. I'm not saying eliminate them, just think a little harder about who exactly will be using the product. This is one idea that NEEDS to be taken back to the drawing board ASAP!

U ARE NOT ALONE. I am a 250lb 5 ft 8 man that has both hips replaced and that infernal switch on the foot peddle has to go. I cannot seem to be able to press hard enough to engage it. I have a 2 year old Yardman 36 inch rider and have only been able to mow my yard 3 times since i got that machine.

I will leave the seat switch alone but that foot switch will be disconnected

  • Husqvarna R155 AWD Riding Lawn Mower Review

What factors are important to you when choosing a riding lawn mower? If you have a large lawn with many obstacles and uneven grass, then a highly maneuverable riding mower will probably be the most suitable. A riding lawn mower that can cope with slopes, wet grass, and obstacles and also finely dices the cuttings to provide excellent lawn fertilizer is the new Husqvarna Rider R155 AWD and it may be just what you are looking for.

The Husqvarna Rider R155 AWD is one of the best lawn mowers for large uneven lawns. It is a well built mower that is designed to be extremely maneuverable, so it is ideal if your lawn has many obstacles like flower beds or trees. The new AWD (all wheel drive) is automatic and loss of traction will force it to engage on all four wheels. The Husqvarna Rider can easily cope with a lawn that is is sloped or when mowing in wet conditions.

The maneuverability is further enhanced by the unique articulated steering system which allows the rear pair of wheels to swing in underneath the machine. The result is superior maneuverability with a 4 inch turning radius at full lock. The mower has 3 cutting blades and a front mounted cutting deck. Cutting heights can be set from 1-1/2 to 3-1/2 inches. The front mounted cutting deck gives excellent accessibility into corners and under benches and bushes. The use of 3 blades makes for very efficient cutting and mulching and the removable BioChip, when installed, causes the clippings to be chopped into mulch under the cutting deck before falling onto the lawn and quickly turning into fertilizer.
