The self propelled throttle cable shows a turtle and a rabbit And how can i know putting it in turtle will turn the wheels slow and in rabbit will turn the wheels fast? (hydrostatic transmission) hopes this helps

Let me ask this, does the speed of the engine change when you move the throttle lever? If so then that does not control the self propel, it controls the engine speed. There should be another lever to control the self propel, and is is near the "bail bar", or the bar you have to hold to keep the engine running. If you have the hydro transmission, then the orange lever next to the engine speed is what controls the speed of the self propel. Please refer to your owners manual. I do not want a bag to catch grass clippings, and I do not want it self propelled. Where can I find one that meets these specs. and if you have any experiences good or bad with a model similar to this please share.

I agree. It is a safety feature. You aren't suppose to pull or drive mowers backwards while the blade is spinning. It's a pain, but I guess they want us to keep our toes.

i got one about 2 mo. ago after 1 mo. it started running poorly. i took it in and they say it has a faulty intake valve. seems unlikely, but i know it isn't the fuel, spark plug, or dirty air filter.
i'll let you know asap if that is it.
ok....i was told it was an intake valve by a "certified" tech. let me be very precise. from day one i noticed after the engine ran a while it seemed to sputter a bit and a little (very little) black smoke came from exhaust. i thought little of it. figured it was just breaking in or something. after each week the condition became progressively worse. finally after 4-5 weeks of use it became so bad it would barely run. i dumped the fuel outta the tank and put hi test in, replaced the plug, and cleaned the air filter.that really made no difference in the way it ran. i took it to service ctr. thinking they may have an insight as to the prob. it sat there 4 wks. til today 8.22. i finally got tired of waiting and picked it up. taking it to a more reputable shop (hopefully) tomorrow. i've always been told that 90% of fuel problems are electrical...which i have many times found to be the case. i have a hard time believing it is an intake valve in a mower this new. can u add n e thing?
also as a footnote (now that i am home and have the manual in front of me) it is a model hrr216tka harmony II gcv160 mower. thanks

you say it seems unlikely to be a faulty valve - are you a service tech & who told you this. First place I would look at would be carb but you saying its running poorly doesn't really explain what its doing.

The engine of the Honda lawn mower starts and runs perfect but it has to be pushed. It started doing this last year but now it's terrible. The cable was out to the end of the adjustment so I replaced it and that didn't help one bit. What else could it be?
It's got a belt that seems OK. It could be stretched, but how do you tell. If it's the transmission, I'll junk it.

I agree with the first poster, your belt is off. Turn the mower over and you will see that between the blades and the motor is a pulley. That pulley should have a belt around it that travels to another pulley between the rear wheels.

The 'clutch' so to speak is basically a lever that pushes or pulls the belt tighter, the tighter the belt, the faster the wheels turn.

Between the rear wheels is a small box that transfers power from the pulley on top of it to the axle. It is possible that this box (called a trans axle) is broken and can no longer transfer the power. If the belt moves the pulley on top of the trans axle and it still does not go, that is the issue.
