Hand Push Lawn Mower - Should I buy one?

I hate mowing the lawn - hate it, hate it, hate it! A friend recently suggested that I should try a hand push lawn mower, to remind me of a simpler time and because it might actually do a better job on my lawn too.

Any hand lawn mowers out there available to give me some advice?

I personally prefer hand push lawn mowers to electric hover mowers. I feel more pride in my lawn once it's done, knowing that I've achieved that with what I'd consider simpler and more traditional tools. With that said, its not for those who are afraid of a little exercise as it can be hard work.

Ideally you want a mower with a 20" frame as it cuts down on the effort you have to put in and gives the best results on your lawn (in my experience).

Have a look at the Scotts 2000 model (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004R A3E?ie=UTF8&tag=yoga089-20&linkC ode=as2&camp=1789&creative=39095 7&creativeASIN=B00004RA3E) - this one in particular has good quality parts, unlike cheaper models I've tried in the past, that will give you good results first time and will last as long as you do!

You'll also be saving money on electricity/gas, which is always a good thing.

Happy mowing!

Who sells he hand push REEL lawn mowers- specifically the nice aluminum type?

Thanks a lot--- I looked at Lowe's and Wal Mart and saw NONE! :-(

They actually sell out really fast at most hardware stores.

In our area, Home Depot, True Value and Valu sold them as of last year. We literally had to ask the guy in Valu when they'd come in and have one put aside for us.

Amazon.com has many of them with "super saver" shipping, which means it will come to you.

Why is it easier to pull a lawn mower or a hand truck than to push it?

Physics at work

When you pull a hand truck with a load on it, you can lean backward plus you use your leg muscles to pull.

When you push it, you mostly can only lean. If you use your legs to push, you will tilt the truck to a more vertical position instead of moving it forward.

Does anyone know a good type of Lawn Mower for a medium size Lawn?

Hey everyone, I'm a total newbie for lawnmowers and need some help picking one out. I'm basically looking for a Gas powered lawn mower to cut the grass once a week. We live in a Townhouse so our lawn isn't too big. I heard Electric lawn mowers are not that great for cutting grass and take up a lot of electricity to recharge their batteries, hence looking for a Gas powered mower. Does anyone know the difference between a Self-Propelled, and a Hand Push Mower? My budget is roughly $200-300...any suggestions would be more than appreciative.

Check with Sears, they have good medium priced mowers. The SP pulls itself forward, where the other one doesn't. I have both, as some of my lawn has small trees and bushes, but the SP is great for most of it. The size of the area to be mowed may also factor into your choice, as a small even lawn, will not take much effort, and a push mower is cheaper then a self propelled.

How do you use your electric lawn mower?

We received a electric lawn mower as a gift (it's a second hand mower) my husband has been using it for several months. The only way he can use it without cutting the electrical cord is pushing and pulling the mower with one hand while pulling, pushing, picking the cord with the other. I think it takes double the time cutting the lawn with this machine....is there a tip that you can give us? maybe something we don't know, like a retractable electrical cord...I don't know....something that you can use to be able to push the machine with both hands

BTW "The Man": 'Electric' would mean..... electricity. 'Battery-powered' would mean.... battery. DUH.

I have an electric; takes a few uses to get the hang of it. Most have a handle that 'flips' from one side to the other, so that the cord stays on the same side of the mower, and you don't have to walk backward, or drag the mower - both of which can be dangerous. Check your mower to see if it has a hinge at the bottom, where the handle attaches to the mower. If so, then you should also have a lever that will unlock the handle and allow you to flip it over to the other side.

Once you figure that out: start mowing closest to where you've plugged in, and walk away from it; make sure that where the cord plugs into the handle stays closest to the 'plug in' point at your house. Then, as you mow further away, the cord stays on the grass that's already been mowed.

    For truly green turf

In the United States, lawns cover almost 40,000 square miles, an area the size of the great state of Kentucky, famed for bluegrass! Sad to say, a lot of those lawns are bad for the environment, because a hefty portion of the 100 million pounds of household pesticides and herbicides U.S. consumers buy every year goes straight to our lawns. But it doesn’t all stay there. Some of these chemicals leach into the groundwater, pollute the air, and get onto the skin and into the mouths of our children, pets, and other creatures that come into contact with the treated grass. To make matters worse, tons of chemical fertilizers are added to the soil, and some of it runs off into our waterways. Those nutrients that turn your grass green can cause vast algae blooms that kill fish and other aquatic creatures.

Fortunately, with a little work upfront, there are many things you can do keep your lawn robust without using these toxic materials. A healthy lawn is like a healthy person. When it’s strong, it can resist disease, withstand a bit of drying out, and go without chemical pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers.  Watch this video from gogreentube.com and then read on to learn more.
