I have a little over/under 3,000 dollar budget. I would like a deck width of atleast 34'' and up to 42''. I know the toro at home depot is a good buy and is ranked high by consumer reports. Is there any dixon, exmark, hustlers, etc for under 3,000? Also does anyone know a website for used zero turn lawn mowers besides craigslist and ebay?
I've seen John deere zero turns for 2999 at Lowes. I personally would never buy a John Deere but for a small budget they are a good buy.

Anyone know of any good free consumer advise sites. I really don't feel like subscribing to Consumer Reports paid site as I don't think I would use it enough to be worth the money. Any opinions on Kohler vs Briggs & Stratton on lawn tractors? I need to buy before my grass starts getting too long. I moved into a new home on 3 acres of land, and my old push mower just isn't going to be enough. I am leaning toward a Huskee 46" lawn tractor at Tractor Supply Co. with a 20hp Kohler engine. I was really disappointed with the quality of the Briggs & Stratton engine on my last push mower, but I really don't know much about Kohler.
A Kohler is a better engine than Briggs and Stratton. I have owned a Kohler since the 1970's and it is still running to this day. I have also had bad luck with B&S and now I only buy Honda engines. They are superior to both of the above. But, yes, the Kohler is better and I would recommend oil changes on a regular basis, and even change the oil for the heck of it when the weather gets really hot. Another important aspect for regualr maintenance is changing the air filter on a regular basis, as well as oil changes.
Good Luck.

Houston Consumer Blog: Best lawnmowers for the money
Is your lawn mower on its last leg, but you don't have any money for a new one? Well, don't despair because Consumer Reports has tested dozens of mowers and finds you don't have to pay top dollar to get a good one.
Lawn mowers can cost as much as $800, but Consumer Reports said you should hold on to your money.
Testers put 50 mowers through their paces. Included in the tests were push and self-propelled mowers from Lawn-Boy, Craftsman, Troy-Bilt, and other manufacturers.
The mowers are tested on six acres of grass in Fort Myers, Florida. Then Consumer Reports' testers get down to business on their hands and knees to inspect how well each mower cuts.
"Here's a classic example of unevenness. And here's a particularly big piece that got pushed down," said Peter Sawchuk of Consumer Reports.
Every mower is rated for its ability to cut in several modes: side discharge, mulching, and bagging.
