You need to learn how to be efficient to get lawns done quick, not walk fast (but that helps a little). I've been in the business for 20 years and can usually figure out the best way to do it pretty quick, but if your new, spend a little time on planning it out and your efficiency will increase and your time spent will decrease.

Some tips - Don't go over any area twice if you can help it. Plan it out in sections & figure if you need to go around the edge for turning then cut the middle or just go straight lines.
If you are bagging, drag a bucket around with you so you don't have to keep going back to unload. If your not bagging, get mulching blades and the clean up will be less.
Don't let the grass get to high before cutting - lots of cleanup and lots of grass to haul away.
