Lawn mower runs only with spark plug disconnected?

I have a 21" Bolen mower w. a Briggs & Stratton engine. On occasion, the mower stops and cannot be re-started, until I disconnect the spark plug. Then it runs just fine. After a few minutes, I can reconnect the plug and continue to work. The amazing thing, is that I have 2 identical mowers, and each does this same trick from time to time. Certainly makes changing the blade more exciting. Anyone have thoughts on what is going on?


Are you sure it's not an electric mower ?
only kidding.
When you say "disconnect" the plug, are you uncapping it or unscrewing the plug to remove it?
Without more info, it's hard to diagnose.
it could be a few different issues.
Is the gap correct on the plugs? If not, it may be running too hot.
Is the gasoline old? Gasoline has a shelf life.
Empty the tank and refill with fresh fuel.
(that's my guess if it happens to both mowers).
