how can i compensate for lost load on a lawn mower shaft so it will start without a blade?

i am trying to build a friction drive bike with a vertical shaft lawn mower engine but i invented a type of clutch that has the shaft free but it wont start free so i need a way to compensate for no load of the blade but take the load of when i engage the shaft to the wheel to make it go-go. some thing like a brake system. help is very appreciated. thx!!


Its not friction you are short of, its inertia. The blade on a mower helps as a flywheel. A single cylinder engine requires a decent flywheel since much of the revolution provides no power.
