Self Propelled Snapper Lawnmower Update (Part 1)

replacement engine, and the matching blade adapter too. So i wrote down the model number from the old mower to get the matching blade adapter ...

The blade adapter on my lawn mower was cracked. I replaced it and as I started the mower it broke again!?

The part was the correct part from Craftsman. It just sputtered a few times as if it was going to start and then it died. When I checked the adapter, the key inside had broken off.

If you sheared your timing key it is a good possibility that your fly wheel key is also sheared and will need replacing.
It will make your engine snap back and cause that adapter to shear again.
The other case known is when the it is not fastened tight enough.
I believe it takes a 9/16 socket, so tighten it up good.

Where can I find a lawnmower blade adapter that will fit a Craftsman lawn mower?

(aside from Craftsman.com - which is extremely slow on delivery)

If you don't want to use Sears... Check with local lawnmower repair shops that service that brand. They keep some parts in stock & may even have some used parts cheaper.

Good Luck!!

lAWN MOWER BLADE CORRECT ATTACHMENT DIRECTION?

I hace a Push lawnmower, name brand is "WHITE" it has a 6.50 hp tecumseh engine, my question is which way does the blade attach to the blade attachment , in that it fits either way, and the book that comes with it, does not specify at all, it just says re-attach after sharpening, but I got it used, without the blade, bought a blade, and no directions on blade, the picture in the book does not show any details of the blade to deternine which way it goes on. to "Cut" not "mulch" do the bent sides along th center of the blade face the ground or the bottom of the mower deck, like I said, I want to "cut" not mulch. please don't say the end tips should face up, becuase this happens no matter which way you flip the blade, since it a duel action blade, do those bend face down, to protect the bolt head from ground debris? or face up, to lock it better on the blade adapter? just alittle baffled, thank you.

The back of the blade is like a wing to lift the grass. So you want the bent up part to face the engine.
All the mowers I have rotate with a clockwise turn as you stand and look down on the mower. So the cutting edge will come at you on the right and away from you on the left as you push it. Of course that will be backwards if you have the mower turned upside down.

Here's the problem: I discovered it was difficult to use because the cutting edge of the blade is recessed nearly two inches above the bottom edge of the housing. I ran my own lawn mower repair shop for three years (many years back) so my experience tells me this is a design flaw. I need a blade adapter that will lower that blade about one and three-quarter inches. Thanks for the replies and I did order the referenced blade adapter. I'll see how it works out. I found two more adapters. It doesn't show a cut-away drawing; but, if I figure the math correctly, they come closer to the length I first wanted. If the one I ordered doesn't do the trick, I'll order one of these. They're the 672503 and 1101824 Murray Blade Adapters on this page .
