I know how to make them, but I am looking for a website or some other inspiration for decorating them. i.e. glass or stone imbedded in them or writing on them? I need pattern ideas.

Look up a book on making garden ornaments at the library. Also I think Michaels sells the kits. One idea is to make stepping stones, one for each person in the family and get each person to embed their handprints on each stone. Even the dog and the cat can get in on the act.

I live in a country town on the east Australian coast and have a 1/4 acre plot full of lots of native plants like bananas and bottlebrush, and others like bamboo. It's beautiful ... unfortunately my dogs think so too! I work four days a week and the destructive duo (crossbreeds aged two and almost two) are left on their own. I provide toys, treats, food etc for them but nothing is going to keep them busy for 36 hours a week and yes, they are bound to get bored some of the time. So, they have taken to digging up the roots of some of the plants and scattering some, and eating others. (Obviously none are poisonous!) At 15-20 dollars a plant this is not funny.

I need a product or some other idea that will stop them digging up and eating the plants. You can buy stuff from the garden centre that claims to stop dogs peeing on plants, but this is not the problem.

Does anyone know of any product, or anything else, that will repel dogs or otherwise keep them away from the plants? I can shut them out of the main part of the garden, in a much smaller grassed area with no plants where they can do their worst, but it would be a shame to do that because I bought the house and yard especially with the dogs in mind. There are two big shady trees in particular at the bottom of the yard that are great for them to laze under during these hot, sunny days and I wouldn't want to deprive them of that, or the space to run around.

If you're not in Australia and know of a product, could you give some idea of the ingredient so I can find an equivalent? Or maybe there's a 'natural' alternative? Or some other kind of trick? Best answer obviously gets 10 points but if you'd like something from Australia too (and it's realistic, not like a real kangaroo or a surf lifesaver, lol) I'll send it to you too. That's how grateful I'd be! (Don't give any addresses obviously at this point.)
The dogs get a walk every morning and evening, and on the three days when I'm not working, they get long runs on the beach. I feel horrible for leaving them when I'm working, like most dog owners I guess, but if only people who didn't work had dogs, there would be lots more homeless dogs in the world. They do have a good life generally, with lots of love and play with me and my daughter.
You've picked one of the few deadly snakes we DON'T have in Australia, dear boy. But for your trouble I will send you a tiger snake. (N.B. they are not as cute as they sound.)

Here are just a few ideas test them out hopefully one will work for you to save ur beautiful garden:

*Try sprinkling a little bit of pepper around ur garden as the dog will not like the smell and generall sneeze at the smell and will be repelled.

*buy a kiddie clam shell you can buy from kmarts/targets, usually used for baby pools, and fill one half of the shell up and berried treats in the shell. So rather then the pup digging and killing plants it kept going back to the shell with the treats.

*Citrus rinds-Grind them up and spread them over the soil. Apparently, dogs (and cats) don't care for citrus.

They just moved there. Didnt register anywhere, small wedding. They're a couple who likes to garden, cook, and entertain. Looking for ideas for a non-big chain (have williams-sonoma as a back-up) to order a gift certificate from. All I can think of is Penzeys, but if there was a great cooking store, organic nursery, restaurant, etc would love any ideas.

My mom's birthday is coming up, and I have no idea what to get for her. I always find it hard to get gifts for parents since they are the ones with the money (just kidding). But really my mom seems to have averything she wants, and she didn't give me any clue when i asked. For the past few years I've made things, or gotten a nice perfume, and last mothers day I got her a nice wind chime that she loved, since she likes to garden.
Any ideas based on what I've said? also, I'm a poor college student, so something not too pricey!

Mom's love their children. If you have photo's of you & her or of some of your siblings. Make her a small photo album. I love it when my kids make me gifts, it's from the heart, then get her a card & put a note in there saying how much you love her, my daughter does this & it always brings tears to my eyes. Or give her a card & put I owe you in it, to a lunch, or dinner date with just you & her, moms love 1 on 1 time with there children. this is just a couple of ideas of things my kids have done for me.
Or you could go to a nursery & get her a plant, that she could put in her garden. Get one that blooms every year. Like a Rose of Sharon, or a Rose Bush. or a mum or a hibiscus. That way every year when it blooms she will think of you... Since she loves to garden...

i want to get all the grandkids to paint a tile and then frame them all together or paint rocks for her garden
how will i know what supplies i need?
and what kind of paint etc?

Boy I'll tell you some of the best gifts I ever got were the hand print stepping stones. They reminded me of how cute the kids and now the grand kids were and are. We used ours to make a path to the lilac I got for my 1st mother's day. Here are some links. Good luck!
