My husband worked hard today and made me a big flower box so I can plant a flower garden in front of our house.I can't wait for everything to bloom! My daughter bought me an early Mother's Day gift.....a beautiful Pink Pixies plant. I just love Lillies!!!!

I'm so happy for you, your husband did a nice thing for you, I have my flowers all growing nice and my strawberry plants have alot on thiem already and a tiny tot tomatoe plant that is full of little tomatoes just right for a nice salad. ♥

The field, a poor mans flower garden when in
the month of July. Without having to cast any
seed, I can enjoy the blossom of God’s gift to
this unassuming yet grateful Adam. I may walk
that which is free for me to do so. To skim with
the palms of my hands the tall grasses, uncut by
scythe for generations. My tread is as thistledown,
therefore leaving no scars to show where I have been.
My walk is predictable and my eyes most keen for
I know not what lies in secret places; though past
July’s have told me where I may happen upon a
patch of Lady’s Fingers and Thumbs, or Purple Tufted
Vetch hidden deep between the Fine Bent, Couch,
Broom, Silky Bent and Quaking grasses.

A poor mans garden indeed though in my humble
view; I would say it is a wise mans garden, for there
is no preparation beforehand, the seasons are my tools.
The wind my seed caster, the rains my watering can
and the snows and frosts my spade. The sun in all of her
morning glory is my field’s alarm clock,
when all of my garden is called to awaken, and be refreshed by early morning mists, then to show forth in all of its glory, that which only a poor man can afford.

What a delight to walk with you through the poor man's garden. Your imagery is so emphatic, so beautifully drawn that I was profoundly moved. Here in California there are Lupine and Poppies and Wild Mustard adorning the hills, still intensely green from the rains. I truly cherish your writing. It is an inspiration. Thank you.

How do I keep a cat from intruding into my flower bed and digging up new plants and seedlings without just shooting at it with an air gun? It is a little flower garden in our front yard and we hate when he camps out and uses the bathroom in our flower bed and then digs at it too and we keep hinting to the neighbors that their cat is invading our yard and even leaving nasty gifts of feces and hairballs all over our yard. And ideas short of building a fence would be welcome.

Place mothballs in your garden, the cats don't like that.

For an end-of-the-year gift for each of my teachers, I'm painting a flower pot. However, I have no clue what to paint on my Language Arts/Reading teacher's flower pot. I'll explain her and you can give me some ideas.

- She likes snowboarding and blading (in the winter.)

- She likes Jack Russels (she has one.)

- She likes the color green.

- She doesn't like flowery things or girly colors (pink, lavender, light blue.)

- She likes to play Scrabble (but she isn't absessed with it.)

- She's really funny.

- She likes gardening.



Those are the things I know about her. It's pretty sad I only know that much because she was my sixth grade teacher, my 7th grade Reading and Language Arts teacher, and my 8th grade Reading and language Arts teacher. I have three main teachers because at our school, we don't have a different teacher for each subject- there aren't enough classes and teachers for that, it's a Catholic School (there are ten people in my class, including me.)

It would be nice if anyone could give me ideas (pictures are also VERY HELPFUL!!!)

What a wonderful idea. I loved Laura's idea of spelling something out in Scrabble letters. if you have these letters you could glue them on with a craft glue.

Maybe have an outdoor scene with different seasons, one being winter with a person on a snowboard, maybe spring with a Jack Russel with a gardening glove or shovel in his mouth..like he's running, summer could be her screaming "School's Out For Summer" (make her hair look kind of crazy or her hands waving or her dancing...show movement), fall could be an apple with "The Best Teacher Ever" on it...maybe that could be the Scrabble part.

If this seems hard you can always decoupage it. Decoupage is when you basically glue pictures, cut outs from magazines, buttons, little trinkets, Scrabble letters...anything on it and then put a thin layer of glue over it.
