How much power does the gardener have to supply to push the lawnmower at a constant speed of 1.2 ?

A gardener pushes a 12 lawn mower whose handle is tilted up 37 above horizontal. The lawn mower's coefficient of rolling friction is 0.15. Assume his push is parallel to the handle.

dread's got it right. you HAVE to consider the enchilada factor, typically 2.78224. without that, the equation is meaningless and a fraud.

I'd say .26 horsepower, if the rolling surface has no coefficient of drag and is horizontal. but what if the mower was an 11 instead of a 12, then what!!!

Gardener's Supply Company?

I am ordering gifts from the above web-site and they is a place a 'catalog code' for special discounts...does anybody have one of these catalog's and can give me a valid code? Thanks!

If you go to SearchAllDeals.com, and start with a search term "Gardener's Supply Company catalog code", you can find coupon code to get 15% to 20% off.

Here is a direct link to the search result:

But I am not sure catalog code is the same as coupon code.

I remember a gardening catalog that sold grow lamps was it gardeners supply or something else?

I remember they use to sell shelf units with like 3-5 shelves with plant grow lights. Now that I can a bigger home I would love one!

Are you thinking of Charley's Greenhouse Supply? They have a large selection of greenhouses, lights, and other growing supplies.

I want to start up a small farm and residential gardeners supply store. I figure with the economy the way it ?

is, that people would start growing their own food at home. Also, small, local, family farms will be coming back again. I want to cater to these customers. Most farm supply stores work with large corporate farms. Is this a good time to start something like this up?

I would do this only if you have a lot of knowledge of farm/garden inputs and can "speak organic". if you don't have a great pool of knowledge of small farming/serious home gardening do get into this or you will likely fail. But if you have been in this game in another capacity for a while and do have a vast amount of knowledge that do it.

I have considered doing exactly this sort of thing out of my farm store but have not yet made the plunge. I have a deep knowledge of small farming, organics and I already buy a lot of items that would be good to sell in such a store in order to keep my small farm running well.

Tomato Ladders, Do they work well?

Has anyone used a tomato ladder? I've always used cages, but I'm interested in trying out ladders. I want to see what others think about them before I invest the $$ for them.

Also, where did you get yours? I have only seen them at Gardeners Supply Company.

Here's a link that talks about the pros and cons of each staking method. Unfortunately, they don't have the ladder but they do talk about similar methods. Perhaps one of these methods will work for you? At best, it's chock full of info! :)

  • An Overview Of The Composting Process And Its Benefits

    Composting process

There is a great deal of organic waste that can be used to make compost. Small twigs, leaves, hedge and grass clippings and other organic materials, including some kitchen waste, can all be used in composting, which is a very effective form of recycling. The resulting composted muck can be added into soil to increase the nutrient levels and create a wonderful environment for plantings.

In fact, to avid gardener s, compost is highly regarded and considered the “black gold” of garden fertilizers. Material that has gone through the composting process ends up producing a wonderfully rich material that is filled with minerals and nutrients that are well suited to encouraging lush and healthy growth of new plants.

Composting ends up creating a wonderfully rich organic material that can be mixed in with virtually any type of soil to improve it and to prepare it for plants. Sandy soils are improved with the addition of compost because it helps retain moisture. Clay soils become much easier to work with when compost is added and makes the soil able to handle an improved variety of plant types.
