Gardeners: What is your favorite garden tool?
Gardener's friend.

I like to find new garden tools and sometimes find one which makes me wonder how I ever got by with out it. One such tool is the Japanese Hori Hori Weeder Knife, or as my husband and I call it, the Samurai sword (because we couldn't remember the proper name for it).
Share your favorite with me....and, if possible, a link to it. Thanks.

Oh, here's a link to the knife:

The scuffle hoe. I can weed in seconds and/or clear gorund for a new flowerbed in minutes and plant the same day ( not true when using herbicides !). It is the best thing going. Clears grass and weeds like a dream.

When my landscaper was installing my sod he used a tool to level out the soil. What's the name of it?
wheel bar - also a gardeners tool

My lawn is thrashed after my gardener mowed it on a rainy day and there are indentations of the mower trail in my soil, the soil is no longer leveled. I recall my landscaper using a non-electric tool that looked like a metal barrel filled with water with handles (like a mower) to flatten the soil. What's the name of the tool?

it is called a roller. the water gives the barrel extra weight. pavers also use this device to tamp down or flatten blacktop

Gardeners, can anyone recommend an inexpensive manual weed-pulling tool?
vrtna lopa

I used to just kneel down and pull weeds up by their roots. But since I was hit by a car a few years ago, if I do that my entire lower back spasms. And the weeds here are like little trees, their roots are so strong.
Last year we ended up paying a landscaper $1,600 just to take everything out. He did a fabulous job, but that's a LOT of money. I don't want my yard to be an eyesore and if there is a good weed-pulling tool out there, we'd save a lot of money (and I would get some much-needed exercise.) It would be great if the tool was one that I could use in a standing position and it got all the roots out.

Thanks all.
Anyone at all?

  • Good Gardeners Employ the Correct Garden Tools: Proper Gardening ...

Where gardens are concerned, Keats' poem “A Thing of Beauty is a Joy Forever” can be paraphrased to state “A garden is a thing of beauty and a job forever”. This “forever job” can be lessened and the backbreaking work can be reduced by using the proper tools for the job. Equally important is the maintenance of the tools. Sharp clean tools are much more effective than old, blunt tools with damaged cutting edges.

    Buying Garden Tools

No matter what size the garden is certain tools are always needed and it makes very good sense to buy the best quality the coffers will allow.

Cheap tools will do the job satisfactorily in the beginning but after a season or two they will begin to lose their sharpness and form. Start off the tool collection with the bare essentials, more choices can be added as time goes by. Always use suitable tools so as not to have to bend unnecessarily when digging or hoeing. Before buying any tools handle them well, getting...
