I have a "stream" running through my garden, and have some plastic flamingos, ducks, and a couple plastic frogs. Looking for some websites where I can buy some cheap, cheesy plasic animals to go with. Like large alligator, hippo, fish (on a stick that you can stick in the ground), and whatever else. Any suggestions?
Sounds Fun!
how 'bout ebay?
some 'not online' options..
oceanstate job lot.. or one of those outlet-type stores.
Christmas tree shops? (they might be online, too)
goodwill stores?- remember - you can always attach a stake to something, if you'd like to use it that way but , it doesn't have one of it's own stakes.
Happy Hunting!

My husband and I recently moved into a new house and have started doing some gardening now that the weather has turned warm. Twice now, he has encountered Catholic iconic items buried in areas where we have dug to put in vegetables or flowers (mass/prayer cards w/ the Virgin Mother) and this weekend, he discovered a crucifix buried in the roots of a rosebush he was trying to move. We're both Protestant, although I did attend a Catholic highschool, and we are puzzled by the finds. I'm familiar with the tradition of burying a statue of St. Joseph when you are trying to sell a house, but can anyone enlighten me on the burial of the prayer cards and the crucifix? We haven't found animal remains that might suggest the burial of a pet - just the artifacts.
Matthew 7:6 Give not that which is holy to dogs; neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turning upon you, they tear you.
The prayer cards and crucifix were probably blessed. Catholics believe that when something is blessed it's considered holy and consecrated to God, so we are not allowed to throw it out into the garbage. When a catholic no longer uses a sacramental such as the prayer cards, and crucifix we either burn it or bury it under the ground.

This is a strange thing but we live on the edge of a national forest in WA. We have put lots of garden trolls, elf's, gnomes, and fairy statues around our land. Every time we put out a fairy it gets mugged, tore up, or broken. Now we have never had this happen to the other statues, ever ones like frogs, squirrels, and rabbits. Any ideas as to what this is all about. Is it possible that some animals don't like them, or even that animals think that the fairies their real food. These are in places where only we go, not accessible to other people.
you could do one of 2 things.........
You could do some sort of warding/hallowing on the space to keep any negative spirits/entities away.
Got to Bass Pro/Cabelas.com and search "trail cams", or even Wal-Mart and buy yourself a trail camera, the ones hunters use to take pictures of game in the areas we are going to be hunting, some flash, others dont. It is probably the only real way shy of hiding in the bushes yourself to see what is really happening to the statues.
Good luck

I've seen large statues of St. Francis of Assisi in the yards and gardens of people who are self avowed sport hunters. They kill for sport, not simply out of necessity. St. Francis loves animals and represents kindness to other creatures. How appropriate is it for him to be in the yard of someone who likes to kill?
I'm talking about killing for fun, not for necessity. It's the idea of recreational killing I'm getting at here - killing as a form of entertainment. St. Francis couldn't be pleased to be associated with it.
If it weren't for managed and controlled hunting - killing for food or sport - then the animal populations would get so large that it would tax the natural resources that they live off of. Then many would be sick and starving and that would be bad. Animals don't have the endless wilderness that they used to have, thanks to man. So since man put them in this mess, man needs to be responsible for helping them maintain a healthy environment so that they can be healthy, too.
Think of the animal shelters. Say you only have a capacity for 200 dogs. The incoming rate of dogs per day is so great (over the rate of adoptions out) that you have exceeded space, water, and food capacity and are running at above capacity. This means that the dogs all suffer from less food, stress, kennel cough, and other illness related to a crowded population. If the shelter does not receive enough funding to support the animal population, they have to kill animals to make room for the new ones. Man put them in this problem by not spaying/neutering, and not taking care of their pets, and man is responsible for managing them and trying to help them out.
The bible tells us man is responsible for caring for the land and for tending to the beasts.

51X51X71H inchesAvailable in Fiberstone or Fiberglass
Fiberstone has a rough surface and fiberglass has a smooth surface.
Both materials are about half the weight of cement and can be outdoors year round.
By mastering the art of casting our home decor and outdoor garden statues, decoration, gargoyles, dragons, angels, cherubs, cupid, fairy, dedo, busts, planters, urns, pots, garden benches, pedestals, columns, garden ornaments, fountains, wall decor, vases, holiday, religious and animal statues in fiberglass or fiberstone resin we manage to retain all the detail or the original with the added benefits of less weight, greater strength, and a product suitable for indoor and outdoor garden decor use.
Fiberstone is a mixture of sand and stones cast into the surface using terrazzo-like techniques. The surface is then sandblasted and chemically treated, followed by an acid stain to give the appearance of aged stone. Since it is reinforced with a fiberglass backing, it remains light-weight and less fragile than concrete.
