Black Basin for Garden Fountain?
some symmetry

Hi
I'm looking into making a garden fountain for a new setup I'll be making, and I need a black basin. I was wondering if anyone would be selling any, or would know where I could find a good, cheap one. Preferably plastic, and I would really like it to be curved. Kind of in a U shape, because I want it to go around a small statue. It doesn't need to be huge, maybe a few feet wide(not including empty center, if curved), and a few feet long...it's no matter how deep it is, as long as it's good for a fountain.

Home Depot and Lowes both sell them in the garden department and they come in many sizes and shapes. Although most of the curved ones are kidney shaped, they fit around a statue beautifully because I did exactly that with one in my own yard.

Garden focal points?
A-mused

Besides a fountain, bird bath, or statue, are there any other garden focal points I should consider?

I'm new to gardening. Right now my backyard has a strip of pachysandra, some hostas in permanent shade, and a small bed of annuals next to the garage.

I'd like to have some object as a focal point and build a small bed around it - either next to the low fence in bright sunshine, or near the pachysandra with a dark green background of pines and maples (the backyard ends in a low wall and drops off, so you're looking at the middle of maple and pine trees).

A water feature is an excellent focal point. People who enter your yard will instinctively move toward it.

Water features don't have to be complicated or difficult to maintain. You just need an outside power source. There are solar-powered water features, but obviously they must be in a very sunny location.

Although this is not my photo, I have an urn just like this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/edwardleger /2271511904/. Water flows from a basin underground and flows on the outside of the urn back into the basin. Very pretty sound, very pretty effect.

You can place rocks and plants in a large circle around the urn and build a path that leads to it; then put a small bench near it. People will gravitate to it and sit by it.

I would like to know if you could use a Vedic God's statue or the like when setting up a place like a garden?
12/16

Namaste -
I would like a place in my garden with a fountain and a pool and a little place to get fresh water.

If Varuna is God of the Waters, or the Ocean, would a depiction of Varuna be suitable......or would that fall to Indra?

Is there a Puranic god who would be better? Krishna perhaps....or would Skanda like to cruise around in a cool spot and play in the waters. He seems so busy these days...maybe a layover would be nice for him?

Excuse my levity...but it seems likely that as an offering, a pool would be nice.

Love,
Lakshmi

In Vedic thought a statue become a representation of the deity only after Pran Pratishta ( Inviting life in the statue) . After that the statue is seen as Living representation of the Deity.Varun is the God of water and Indira of Rains and Thunder.

Name some distinctly European things that can inconspicuously be incorporated into an americans home/lifestyle?
2/16

So far I have:

Narrow stairwells & doorways (for, like, say you build your own home)
Tapestry rugs
Bells
Tea (and having 'High Tea')
High iron gates at the front of the property
Flower Gardens, complete with statues & fountains.
Large lawns
No cabinet, no shelf kitchens(i.e. 'worktables' with dish slots, pothanger & spice dishes)
Double doors for the kitchen & front door, arched doorway in all other downstairs entrances.
Has a library (aside from "converted bedroom")
Has a parlour (aside from the family room)
Window seats
Large windows
Lots of mirrors
Small meals
Proper manners

So, other than these things, what else can you think of that are distinctly European things that can be inconspicuously incorporated into an Americans home and/or lifestyle?

Mercedes benz, Audi, Jaguar to name a few.
I love the way they hold the fork in the left hand to eat.
