Whe can I buy a concrete garden stone statue of "the three graces" over 4ft tall to buy?
Gatlinburg, TN: Garden Statues Sales

It's my mum's 60th birthday and she has said she wants a garden statue of "the 3 graces" in grey stone/concrete from her three daughters as a special pressie. Others friends and family have agreed to club in so we can get her exactly what she wants (within reason). I can find the 3ft (31inch) model in garden centres in the UK but nothing bigger! In despair I am opening this one up, please help me to make my mum's 60th one she will never forget. She has seen it in this country and also in Spain, but where? I am willing to travel, hire a van to move it if need be, I just need to locate one. Thanks in advance.

How do plaster garden statues bird baths compare in longevity to concrete ones?

and how can you tell for sure if it is plaster or concrete??

Thanks for your answers!

weight will tell you.Plaster ones will last a long time, unlike stone though they need a clean up and bit of paint every second year.So plaster is okay, but if it feels ridiculously light in weight do not buy.Get one that has some bulk to it

How do "plaster" garden statue bird baths hold up in comparison to concrete ones?
SDIM0854.JPG

what are the differences in longevity?

I am not sure if the actual bath part is plaster or concrete, but it is really heavy.

the statue on top is hollow and quite intricately carved.

both are very smooth,

but the bowl is again very heavy and hard. so what could it be for anyone who could guess?

Thanks for your answers!

Plaster ones tend to crack with age, as they get water into the structure. I have a Gargoyle, and the only way to protect it is to paint it with Varnish or Paint.

All the concrete ones I have last well, but are not as detailed.

I prefer the plastic ones I have for detail and age, but they are Plastic.

How do I stain concrete statue?
SDIM0852.JPG

I bought a concrete statue for my garden. I want to stain it. I prefer it to look like I've had it for years. I would like the weathered look w/ moss covering some parts of the statue. How do I do this without spending alot of money?

i have worked with concrete ornaments and mouldings for many years this is real easy you need yougurt out of date even better simply coat your ornament with it it works best in warm weather as many coats as possible another trick suspend a piece of old metal above the ornament and let the weather do the rest the rust collects and looks really old

How do you preserve a concrete statue that is exposed outdoor?
SDIM0849.JPG

I have a 1-foot tall concrete chicken statue that I decorate my garden. Since it is exposed to weather, over time, the paint peel off and some of the concrete is chipped. How do I fix it so that it will last long?

I have several concrete statues and fountains in my yard which I have used several manufacturer's paints to spruce up over the years. I've found that the Patio Paints and sealer last about the longest even when exposed to water spraying from the fountains. You really have to wire brush off all of the peeling paint on the statue before starting and use the primer and the sealer after painting for the best adhesion. I have pieces that I painted 10 years ago out there that have weathered better than the ones on which I used concrete paint from the home improvement centers.

  • Finding the Key To Your Outdoor Garden « Outdoor Garden Statues

When you’ve spent a lot of time on your garden, it’s nice to see it taking shape. Sometimes everything may be growing well but something still seems to be lacking. Maybe your outdoor garden looks nice but lacks character. Buying a statue or a fountain can help but before you go to that expense, why not take a step back and figure out what kind of garden you really want.

Looking at what someone else has done is a wonderful way to find what you like or don’t like. This might be a good time to visit a public garden near you. Don’t just wander around. Use your camera and actually take notes. Think about how you feel in each area of the garden – restful, just want to walk through it, romantic, etc. Once you identify it, figure out what makes that area feel that way.  Once you know that, you can bring it back to your own garden.

I found an article that demonstrates this. It’s in the New York Times called Land as Canvas, Plants as Paint By DOROTHY SPEARS  Published: August 21, 2009.  It talks about known artists who turn their creative talents to their gardens and bring forth something special. Their showpieces were in the Hamptons but their ideas are timeless.  One of the artists they covered was a photographer called Dianne Blell.  Here’s a quote.
