I'm looking for a garden (outdoor) Buddha statue. Material can be stone, concrete, or any variety of composite that will withstand the outdoors. Most vendors I have found cater to the trendy set. This is for a Theravada Buddhist non profit and we cant afford to pay a lot of money. The size we are looking for is at least 36 inches. Thanks

How inexpensive is inexpensive. I've searched many sites and almost all 36" Buddhas are in the low $200's. If you live anywhere close to the Mexican border, you can pick up plaster Buddhas for a lot less than that. Good Luck, Namaste.

I want to buy a 'different' present for my husband for Christmas and am trying to get a Buddha ornament for the garden. I've tried looking on the Internet but can only find small ornaments for indoors or very expensive granite ones for the garden. I don't mind paying up to £80 and would prefer a wood or resin one, and it has to be the fat happy Buddha type I live in Gloucestershire, England. Anyone out there able to help with this request? It would be very much appreciated.

Are Buddhists better gardeners? Or is it blasphemous to have Jesus peering out from the irises and tulips?

Though both are considered blasphemous, but people use the Buddha's image in gardens to inspire tranquility, calm, and peace because the Buddha's cultivation resulted in peace and tranquility.

Buddha's teachings were based on escaping what makes us so muddled, busy, hectic, frustrated-- desires. It's like, either you want to put the busiest highway onto your garden for tranquility, or the Buddha.

People don't put Jesus unless it's a religious thing, but Christianity doesn't teach principles or fundamentals of developing and cultivating tranquility and peace. So that's why the Buddha's image inspires it. Also, when you see Jesus, he appears as your Lord and Savior-- he's got his arms out and he's gonna save you! Not many people care for that.

Buddha appears as himself... sitting there isolated and calm. That's why the Buddha's image transcends religious feelings.

I don't know of any etiquette for a meditative garden. As long as you find it to be a reflective area is all that would be important. Some are very simple like the Zen gardens. Mine has a lot of wild flowers, some meandering paths, and a bench that I can sit on while thinking. My Buddha rests on a pile of stones to raise the statue above the plants.

Ok, so I saw this laughing buddha/hotei statue in a catalog once while looking at it with my girlfriend she really liked it. Her b-day is coming and I really want to get it, but we don't have this catalog anymore and I can't find the statue. I am hoping to find the name of the company that sends these catalogs out so I can call them or check their website and order it.

It was one of those sort of "yoga style" catalogs, not just yoga stuff, but a lot of clothes and items for meditation, etc. It sort of looked like a coldwater creek catalog in layout. And it was a garden sculpture, so it included those kinds of things. Does anyone else get these? Do you know the names of some of these catalogs and maybe I can find it. Whoever gives me the name of the right one first gets the best answer (of course)

If you live in a larger city, these kinds of statues are commonly found in Chinese curio stores. Sometimes you can find such statues in garden stores or even in antique shops.
