Like people, each variety and individual piece of wood has its own personality. Wood is not a passive medium and does not always accept the dictates of an artist. Thus, making wood sculptures in an interactive process. It often leads to opportunities in new directions as a piece evolves into being.

The small cracks and imperfections are parts of a wood’s character and which seldom detract from the finished product. In fact, these flaws are sometimes what make a wood sculpture a unique piece on its own. Some artists leave a wood as is after finishing the form while others enhance the beauty through finishing with varnishes.
