It is just bent a bit but it is Iron. I tried banging it a bit but no luck.

Your ability to restore the original position of the metal components depends on how badly it is bent, and the techniques you use to restore it.

There is a characteristic of metals that requires that any bending [original or restoration] is that the metal has to be bent 'just a little farther (beyond)' than where you want it to end up. This is due to 'spring' in the metal.

For illustration of the technique I will discuss only a single bar of steel. The same principal applies for multiple adjacent bars.

It sounds like your 'pounding' attempts failed probably because whatever you were pounding with was not HEAVY enough. It is best to use an 8 or 12 pound sledge hammer or maul. This will overcome the strength of the metal.

As answer one suggested turn the table upside down, preferably on a concrete driveway or sidewalk. When you try to hammer or pound on an object resting on the grass or ground, the energy of your pounding is absorbed in the soft material.

Also, to get the metal bent 'slightly' beyond where you want it to finish up, use some scrap 2x4 wood blocks to place under the bent metal, at either side [but away from] the center-point of the bend you want to correct. This gets the metal above the hard surface, and allows the center of the bend to move slightly past the plane of the original position.

Then with the HEAVY maul or sledge hammer, pound precisely at the center point of the bend. Start out with reletively gentle blows, bending the metal a little at a time so as not to overbend it. If the lighter blows do not cause any movement, then slightly increase the strength of the blows until the metal begins to move slightly.

Continue doing this until the bent bar is back where you want it to be.

Since there are probably several bars bent, and the other bent ones will make it difficult to get the bar you're working on to move all the way, you should work each bar a little at a time.

Work the first bar until it moves a little, then work on the next, and the next, and the next, and then back the other way. Continue this series of slight corrections over and over until all bent bars are back where you want them.

IF the metal is HOLLOW TUBING, this excercise is a whole 'new ballhgame' as tubing is almost impossipbe to restore.

Table Tennis played in the back yard of Harish amp; Anupama#39;s house in Campbell,California on 12/29/2007

The coffee table has a square hunter green base with drawers and the top draw has a glass top so whatever you put in can be seen from the top of the table. I want to find a really craetive idea to decorate this space. it is probably 5'' deep so it cant be anything to tall. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

What do you collect?
1] Make a collage of family photos
2] seashells with sand, some beach grasses and beach glass
3] make a diorama - do a summer one with sand glued to a large piece if background paper, shiny blue foil 'ocean', scraps of terry for beach towels, cocktail umbrellas for beach shade, and little plastic people with large button 'frisbees'[ then make a back -to school, Christmas, etc. ]

I've found using Guardsman furniture polish can restore the luster of wooden furniture. As for the worn spot this is a tricky undertaking as you would have to know the type of finish(oil or water-based) and be able to to tint a matching stain and blend a repair. Home Depot carries a furniture refinishing kit that is not as involved as you might think. It is actually a finish restoring kit by Homer Formby and it is usu. kept in the paint dept. Try it out!

Also for three white bar stools.....
I put 20 on the table and 10 on the white bar stools.
The table is rectangular.

I would think you could charge more than $20 for the table, depending upon condition, of course. Good luck with your yard sale.
