Essentially I bought a patio set from soneone that is around 15 yo. It was taken car of quite well and no metal is bent but it is rusting underneath the table ledge and the umbrella hole. The black paint looks dull and sunbleached as well. I don't believe it's ever been refinished. I want to remove all the rust and repaint the entire thing. I want to know details in the steps required. I was told by many people to use Naval Jelly or a rust converter to remove the rust. That is easier then sanding because you can get into all the corners. I want to use a rustoleum black glass paint. Do I have to sand all the paint off to bare metal? I want to use a roller on the table should I use a foam roler? Is Spray the paint better? Also I want to do the chairs but how will I get the paint off all those little corners and rods? Should I use a stripper? I heard strippers are messy? Should I prime as well? What applicator should I use for the chairs considering how detailed they are?
I have had this same situation. I found someone that could 'sand blast' the set... it sands off all the rust and old paint... you pay a little to have it done, but in the long run, you will be much happier with how it turns out!
I got the rustoleum paint (white tho) and sprayed on the paint... it takes a few light coats if you go with the spray.
if you use paint on paint instead, I would use a foam brush or roller. you can use a regular brush to get in all the corners. the spray paint will get in all the bits and corners and such better tho... you COULD use some of each... using the spray for the tough areas and finishing up the bigger areas with your brush/roller.
I would stay away from the stripping agents, as it is a horrible mess (been there done that too!)

but since we do not use our wrought iron patio table and chairs alot what can we put in place of that? i was thinking to keep the umbrella and get like a glider chair, etc...? if we have guests we need some type of table stil, but overall i was looking at getting something which is more comfortable for us when we want to use it. we live in WI so our summers are very short.
I used a big palm with the leaves spread out with tiny white lights on them. You can use large square pots and use spanish moss or colored rocks to cover the dirt (spanish moss will help with keeping moisture trapped in). Or, buy several different heights of palms with different colored pots to match/compliment the patio/house colors and do the same. If you don't want to have to worry about live plants, you can go to Lowes or Home Depot and get fake ones with lights already on them (they come in a box with three of them in there). Then put in your glider, or better yet a couple of white rocking chairs so you can rock at your speed and not your partners. You can always bring the plants in during the winter, and the same with the rockers.

I have a plain concrete patio. My house is red/brown brick with slightly off-white/taupe painted addition (next to patio) and trim. I have a black wrought iron table and chairs, a blk wrought iron glider, and 2 black rocking chairs and table. What color should I go with for throw pillows/cushions/outdoor rug. I love cozy cottage style. Any help would be appreciated to help me mak this outoor space relaxing and cozy. Thanks...I
A cozy cottage style is best achieved using a flowered patterned fabric for the cushions with a clearly understood flower and leaf design, roses or lillies or ivy.
If the furniture is out sized you can choose a large pattern. Otherwise choose a medium size pattern and repeat.
If the fabric background colour is a light green, with roses of yellow, pink or red, leaves in shades of green, you need to pick out the yellow, red or pink or green for the toss pillows. Then you can use the same color with different shades, for plates and napkins.
Be sure to avoid tropical prints or you lose the cottage look. And remember that yellow, pink, red colors are typical cottage colors.
For the floor, if the patio is covered, a braided rug or a hooked rug with flower motifs, will give a cottage look.
If it needs to be a weather resistant floor covering, you might still find a hooked rug that you can use. Otherwise a very simple geometric in greens and yellows, or several shades of green will help maintain or at least not destroy the cottage effect you want to achieve.

Outdoor bistro table
I'm doing an outdoor bistro table mosaic for a school auction.?
My idea is that children in the class of each decorate a tile and then set the tiles in a metal / ironing board. What means should be children to use? Does the tile need dried? Can I get away with acrylic and a protective gloss? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am a craft beginner and deterioration. Thanks
What a great idea! If you do not want the cost and time is short I would not use the oven method. I have an idea pre-treat-tiles (Home Depot, Lowes) and the use of color Sharples them. They have sets with 25-30 different colors and different size boards that could probably find Michael, or an office supply store. Good luck!
