I've recently purchased an old wrought iron patio set and would like to restore it to a new-looking black finish.

First, you will need to remove the old finish plus all of the rust that is on there. You need a bare metal to start a good finish with.

You can go to Sears and buy a sand blaster for about $75 or rent one for about $7 a day . Add sand to it and blast off the old finish and rust too. I took an old bench I had to a fabrication shop here locally and they sand blasted it clean for me for $15. Shops that weld and do "ironwork" also do sand blasting.

Once clean, its ready to start finishing it. The best finish around is that on Automobiles. No question about it, its the best and most durable and costs are very reasonable for such a finish.

So buy a quart of Automotive primer. Spray the set with a coat or two using an ordinary spray gun.

Then apply the base coat color. Here you have a big choice of colors, but you say black, so spray it with base coat black.

Then spray on the clear coat Polyurethane with a bit of hardener in it. Give it two coats of this finish.

You will have the best set around and it will last for at least 20 years out in the sun, rain, snow, anywhere. The total cost of this is about the same as going to Lowes and buying some kind of a paint that will surely not stay on there because it is not resistant to the sun, rain, and weather like an auto paint is.

I'm using rustoluem gloss paint. I want to get a clean looking finish.

I used the Rustoleum wrought iron textured paint. First, I wired brushed off any loose paint and rust. Then I used the Rustoleum metal primer that seals in and prevents future rust. Then, used the textured paint. I spray painted this time. I found that I got better coverage, more even coats, less dripping and it lasted longer than when I used the same product and applied it with brushes and rollers. (I did it last year and won't have to do it again this year.)

I have a plain concrete patio. My house is red/brown brick with slightly off-white/taupe painted addition (next to patio) and trim. I have a black wrought iron table and chairs, a blk wrought iron glider, and 2 black rocking chairs and table. What color should I go with for throw pillows/cushions/outdoor rug. I love cozy cottage style. Any help would be appreciated to help me mak this outoor space relaxing and cozy. Thanks...I

A cozy cottage style is best achieved using a flowered patterned fabric for the cushions with a clearly understood flower and leaf design, roses or lillies or ivy.

If the furniture is out sized you can choose a large pattern. Otherwise choose a medium size pattern and repeat.

If the fabric background colour is a light green, with roses of yellow, pink or red, leaves in shades of green, you need to pick out the yellow, red or pink or green for the toss pillows. Then you can use the same color with different shades, for plates and napkins.

Be sure to avoid tropical prints or you lose the cottage look. And remember that yellow, pink, red colors are typical cottage colors.

For the floor, if the patio is covered, a braided rug or a hooked rug with flower motifs, will give a cottage look.

If it needs to be a weather resistant floor covering, you might still find a hooked rug that you can use. Otherwise a very simple geometric in greens and yellows, or several shades of green will help maintain or at least not destroy the cottage effect you want to achieve.

A few years ago I purchased a heavy, outdoor bar on wheels, but did not purchase the bar stools. There is no brand name on the bar. I know this company used to have a website. If anyone else has this furniture and remembers the brand name, you'd be a great help!
I bought my bar at the Laguna, CA store.

If I remember correctly, the Expo Design Center was a division of Home Depot. Maybe they can help you out.
