I am looking for an attractive, sturdy easy to clean & look after table & chairs for my garden. (possibly one thats seats 6 people) However, do not want to spend a fortune, can anyone recommended where i should go for this, i.e Argos, Robert Dyas etc I have never brought garden furniture before, so need to know whats good & whats not! Thanks
Plastic doesn't wear too well. My favourite garden furniture is the wooden type. It lasts for years if you apply some wood oil to it once a year & it looks lovely. It can be expensive, but I got my set from my nearest IKEA store (www.ikea.co.uk) & it was cheaper than some plastic sets I've seen in garden centres etc!

I am going to cut down a Rhododendron tree in the garden and would like to re-use the wood in the garden (e.g. garden chairs, table, bench, etc.)
What seasoning / treatment / etc do I need to carry out on the wood after cutting so that it will not rot or degrade once I have made into garden furniture?

cut it into the sections you want, melt some wax and dip the ends and store in a cool dry place for about a year, this prevents checking (cracks) then bark the wood and put together whatever your building and spray or paint on a good wood sealer clear or colored or you could stain it then seal it... good luck...

We need a new dining table and chairs for the garden. We can't afford teak but there appears to be a wide selection of products in either acacia wood or eucalyptus wood. Which of these two woods is the best choice and why? Of course if anyone knows a place to buy low cost teak furniture then please let us know. Thanks
I'm just a poor good ole boy, but if you can afford to buy any wood furniture for outside, especially a dining table and chairs, I'd say you could afford the teak.
i've been given a rocking chair which hasnt been painted or treated. i want to leave it out in the garden. what do i need to do to the wood to protect it?

A personal thing here but I dont wear watches, nor rings and again, just a personal thing but I find gloves dangerous in a shop. Blades, bits, knives etc., have a tendency to grab hold of the fibre and pull the wholehand in.

Yep….don’t want to sound like a Parrot, but I agree with the posters above. None of the guys in my shop are allowed to wear gloves of ANY sort while using machinery. Not only can they get caught on blades, but a myriad of other things, including the wood. They also tend to give guys a very false sense of security.
