I have green wall to wall carpet and I plan to paint my walls a peachy color (is that a good idea??) what color furniture should I get? I was thinking cherry wood...
I guess one would call this carpet a sea green, it has sort of a bluish undertone

All woods should go with green [ all trees have have leaves or needles! ]
What shade of green?
Blue undertone [ mint, jade, emerald, forest, pine? ] or
Yellow undertone [ lime, kelly, olive, moss? ]
Peach would look great with most, if not all greens.
If you like 'cool' or 'blue' tones, try cherry, mahogany, walnut, etc.
If you like 'warm' or 'yellow' tones, try oak, maple, pine.

You'll have to paint it. Laminate won't take stain, it will just bead up on the surface.

Pick a color you like and get some good quality brushes. Primer the furniture first, then put a few coats of paint on.

i am being given a wood furniture set thats pretty old but in great condition the problem is it was store in a basement and it smells musty ...it doesnt seem to have a varnish on it just a stain...how to get rid of the smell?

clean with murphys soap then clean with lemon oil
then put it in a small room with a de humidifier for a week or so then clean with lemon oil again

I need to sell our bedroom furniture set, but I have no idea what type of wood it is. My husband owned it before we got married and he doesn't even know! It looks like light oak, but with darker circles throughout it. He thinks they're called knots, but I cannot find anything online. If anyone has an idea, thanks!

Depending on the size of the 'circles' . . . the first thing that came to mind was "Birds-Eye Maple". The 'circles' are pretty small and literally look like birds' eyes on blonde colored wood. It's nice wood and certainly a much harder wood than pine. I think that pine has occasional 'circles' (pine knots) but usually more 'swirls' than knots. If you can make a small dent with your fingernail in an inconspicuous spot, then it is probably a 'soft wood' (such as pine). If not, i would think you are dealing with something other than pine wood.

Hi, I don't know much about furniture other than saying something is cute or not, but I was told by a friend that I should stick with solid wood construction and avoid veneers, but I noticed that there are a lot of different varieties of wood used in different furniture sets. So far I've seen pine, maple, oak, alder, cherry, and mahogany. What's the best? What makes it best? What makes other wood cheap or poor quality? And is there a site online that can help to better explain why I want a better quality wood for my furniture and what in fact makes it better? I'm really hoping someone can help me out because I want to buy a nice quality bedroom set and I don't want to pay top dollar for junky furniture either. Thanks in advance.

The wood species is up to you, what do you like? If you choose a posted set, the posts should be solid wood. Any panels you choose can be veneered or solid. Veneer panels are much better than they used to be. The glues used are better and manufacturers are willing to stand behind them. Solid wood panels are beautiful but may require multiple glue joints to achieve adequate width. This can create inconsistent grain patterns. If you see something that looks good at the store, but when you get it it doesn't look so great, go back to the store and demand the display. They tend to show the best.
