Many opinions seem to exist. What are the pros and cons of:
1. just teak oil only every 6 months
2. going for marine grade teak oil (is this better?)
3. using a natural decking oil in steak of teak oil for a longer lasting result
3. using a combination stain and varnish

Teak wood doesn't need to have anything done to it. In my experience it's better to leave it alone. It weathers beautifully.

And, what does the oil do? And, last question is do you need to cover teak furniture in bad weather or when not using the furniture?

Teak is very hard and can withstand the weather very well. The oil puts back the natural oil that gets soaked up by the sun, every couple years or when it starts looking light colored apply a liberal coat. Good luck Les the painter

Teak will eventually turn a silvery patina color if left unprotected outdoors, but it will not lose it's strength.

You should get some teak oil from B & Q or similar shop and thoroughly coat your furniture. Ideally it should be put in a shed if you have room but if not it then wants covering with some thick polythene, or a proper cover.
