How do I remove melted plastic from a brick porch?

I had a small fire on my porch, which melted the hard plastic porch furniture on to the brick surface. Scraping it only goes so far. Any tips on how to get it off?

Wear protective gloves. Pour on acetone , wait for the plastic to soften and scrape off. May take repeated applications. Don't breath in the fumes.

Porch furniture ...?

So I have a screened in porch with a roof but I live in Mass so we get some pretty bad weather and snow and rain do get in if it's windy. My husband and I went to Pier one and we mixed and matched a great patio set with pillows, a loveseat, table, small table everything, it was perfect and in our price range........only to find out it was mostly indoor stuff!! They had all their outdoor furniture and indoor wicker/cushions mixed together and not separated. it was quite frustrating..
anyways, has anyone used indoor wicker on a porch?

That Pier One for you.

I have not tried putting inside furniture outside, but do have some suggestions, if they are not returnable.

You may want to spray the wicker with aerosol polyeurethane, or any weatherproof clear finish that can be sprayed.

I am also worried about the waterproof-ness of any adhesives used in the construction of the frame. If it is screwed nicely together, you may be safe.

How can I build a Pirate ship on my porch?

For Halloween this year, my friends and i thought it would be cool to make our porch look like the side of a pirate ship and have like 20 pirates out there. The small details are pretty extensive but we're having trouble figuring out how to build the ship itself. We found a furniture store willing to donate giant furniture boxes, but as for getting the ship's shape (its alot harder than it seems) we've failed. :P We have a couple hundred dollares to work with.
Help would be very much appreciated! Did i mention we're going to be having a bake sale to raise money for our troops still in Iraq too? So i'm sure the soldiers would thank you too.

It sounds like a lot of fun! I've built things out of cardboard boxes before using cardboard rivets. You could probably also substitute zipties (plastic wire wraps). There are plans for a pirate ship made out of cardboard here: http://www.mrmcgroovys.com/pirate_ship.h tm and the site sells cardboard rivets too.

At least it will give you some idea about how to make the shape of the ship.

Good luck and happy haunting!

I need some decorating ideas for a screened in back porch. And the ideas need to be cheap, cheap, cheap!?

The area is long and narrow, 8 feet by 23 feet. The long front is screened; the two end walls are beige stucco, like house. Ceiling is white. I'm getting a ceiling fan. I have green indoor-outdoor carpet, a bit worn, but okay.
There's a white plastic chaise lounge with green striped cushion and a white plastic table with four chairs. I have place mats and silk tulips on the table. There's one small white plastic table.

I don't love the white plastic patio furniture, but it's all I can afford right now. I want to accessorize and add some wall decor to the stucco, if possible. But what?

I don't have a green thumb, and I live in Florida. I will add some plants and flowers, but need suggestions.

It's hot and humid here. Fabrics fade and mildew. During certain seasons, yellow pollen lies thick as powder over everything. So I have to be practical.

It doesn't have to look like Martha Stewart dropped by, but I do need practical, inexpensive suggestions. Ideas, please!!

Pick a color and stick to it for flowers and other accessories. Add candles in varying heights to the tables. Hang pictures if you like or baskets with plants. You can buy a couple of the 'basket weave' metal trash cans for around $3.00 each. line them with peat moss and add a tall green plant. Put one on either side of the door.

Add a small throw pillow to the chaise lounge.
You can paint the chairs and tables for just a few bucks if you want a change. (dark forest green?)

Add a cheap rug (sisal), a bowl of fruit (oranges - as orange would be a great accent color for your area), a couple of flowering plants (orange inpatients?) , a table cloth in a tropical print of green, orange, yellow, white, and you have a whole new look.

Shop thrift stores and yard sales.

Hope this helps. :)
