I decided to put in a patio garden this year using 5 gallon red wood barrels. The frogs are digging into the soil and are killing the roots of my plants. I don't want to kill them because they help with the fly and mosquito population, but I also want my garden to produce.
I just found out the frogs are really "toads." I never knew the difference before. Either way, they are still a problem in my patio garden.

First are you sure that they are frogs and not toads? I have never heard of frogs digging holes, but have heard of toads doing it to get at grubs and worms. Anyway you can use thin sheet metal to create a guard around the pots by cutting and bending it to fit the pots, then just use small self drilling screws to fasten the sheet metal to the pots, just be careful and use a file to remove the sharp edges on the sheet metal after you cut it.

A private tour of a patio garden.

I'm going to try a patio garden this year. I have a tall pine tree next to my patio so I don't know which corners are shaded or sunny. Are there any trick as how to measure sunlight aside from sitting in my patio all day long?

sure...stand out there and watch as the sun moves across the yard...(or have a camera do it...)

I am starting a Patio garden. I'm really excited about it. I have laid everything out and all i need are the flowers. I really want to plant veggies but i think i am going to wait till next spring so, I want to plant some flowers.

Any suggestions on what type of flowers to plant?

I don't know where you live, because certain plants do better in certain parts of the country. I can tell you I have had amazing luck with marigolds, african daisies, gerber daisies (my fave so far) and right now, celosia (ooh those are so cool! google 'em!) and 'polka dot plant' google that one too- (Hypoestes phyllostachya) which is a simply gorgeous leafy plant. Until I started these plants I thought I had a black thumb but they are actually doing great! Good luck! I love that you are excited about it, gardening is such a wonderful hobby, and next year I know you will have an amazing container garden with veggies too!

i'm planning decking for my back garden and to support the decking i have chosen to use bolt down post supports. What fasteners are best used to secure these to a concrete patio floor. Also what fasteners are best used to secure a beam to an external wall. The beam will be used to support the decking will be 2.5m long and suspended at height of 400mm

I used dynabolts on my patio/concrete and they are brill , they should be OK for supporting a beam that size
