We just bought a patio set which includes thick chair cushions. They say they have been treated to be water repellant. Do we need to move them every time it rains? What else should I do to protect the padding? Thanks.
The padding is also designed to be fast drying, but if it is going to rain Friday night or Saturday morning and you know you're going to use it Saturday afternoon, it might not dry fast enough for you.
Being water repellent and fast drying are certainly a help, but they still tend to get a bit dirty out there. If I'm not going to be using them during the work week, I take them in and put them back on the weekend. If you notice after a few months that they are not as water repellent as they were, you can buy a spray can of the repellent to renew.

She is particularly bad about chewing on things when she is put outside. She eats our plants (prefers flowers) and just today she ripped up a cushion on one of our patio furniture chairs. I purchased some bitter spray (rosemary) from PetsSmart but it doesn't seem to work. We give her chew toys but it seems she would rather chew other things. She seems to exhibit this behavior when she is left alone outside in our yard. When I bring her inside she is less likely to chew on things but I can't have a dog that lives inside exclusively.
You would need to spend time on teaching her what's ok to chew. Dogs like to chew stuff(and come on, you have a boxer); it's their way of releasing stress. The best way to do it is whenever you catch her chewing stuff that you don't want her to chew, say "No" in a deep, low tone voice. Many owners make the mistake of screaming to the dog, ignoring the fact the screaming(higer tone voice) actually make the dog excited. Lower tone voice is dog's natural way of saying "you have stepped over the line". When your boxer is chewing her chew toy, pet an praise her with a higher pitch voice. The catch of this method is you really need to catch every single time she is chewing the right or wrong thing, or else she will get confused.
So there is the text book way, here is what I did. I needed to go to work, and I had no time to sit next to my dog for the whole day. I gave her the "Kong" chew toy(you can buy it from petco). I packed it with peanut butter and biscuits tightly, so that my dog would need to spend the whole day digging them out. I also played catch with my dog with chew toys that were made of cloth. When he caught them, he would be really excited and keep chewing the chew toy. Overtime, you dog would like to chew stuff that are made of soft plastic(like the kong), and the cloth-made chew toys. This is because everytime she chews those stuff, it brings good feeling of "eatting peanut butter" and "playing catch".

We have 2 Pembroke Welsh Corgis- both 5 months old. They are finally house trained and VERY good dogs... however, I have an outdoor daybed on my deck, a really nice piece of patio furniture, it's been there since before we got the puppies and the dogs have always been allowed on it because they don't chew... but all of a sudden, just in the last 3 weeks, they've torn all the buttons off the pillows, thrown them off the bed, and pottied number one AND two on the cushion. They don't do it on any of the other cushioned chairs outside, and they've never even moved a pillow on the couch inside!... I've shampooed the mattress with pet smell remover and let it dry for 2 days in the sun, washed all the pillows that go on it and I bought a spray called "keep off" that is made to keep pets off of furniture- something about the smell i suppose. But it seems that the second it starts to wear off, they're on it again! Does anyone have suggestions or ideas? Nothing in our everyday life has changed, they eat the same, we go on the same walks- I'm at a loss. Please help!
Confine them to an area so that they can't damage your furniture. Build a small run outside where they can do as they please without you worrying about what is happening.
I'm building it from offcuts of wood to sit on our balcony in order to protect our patio furniture against the Paris winter, which can be sub-zero and very wet. I want to avoid rusting of the metal components and rotting of the chair cushions.
Thanks for your help!
The balcony is quite sheltered, and I'm wondering whether I should try to make the box airtight (and probably not succeed 100%), or whether it's better to leave ventilation slits on the sheltered side to let any dampness or condensation evaporate.
I think the chairs themselves would be ok in a vented box = however have you thought of the cushions in one or two - or however many you need - vacuum sealing bags. They take the air out and vacuum seal with your vacuum cleaner = I have stored blankets and quilts and sleeping bags through the winter in my garage with great success.
they are sold in all the large department stores - walmart , kmart, target etc.

Adirondack Chair Cushions-Comfort and Style | Office Seating Chairs
Chair cushions available ready made. You can choose from solids, stripes plaids and florals. Most come in standard sizes that will fit many patio furniture styles. Some patio furniture cushions are reversible, as well, allowing you to have two different looks with the same cushions. Choose patterns that complement the style of your furniture and the overall style of the room, as well as ones that complement the colors in your outdoor room.
Ready made Adirondack chair cushions are designed to be left out in the weather.
If you want to create custom Adirondack furniture cushions so that they will match with other portions of your décor, you can consider making your cushions or having them made by a seamstress. If your chosen fabric is not weather resistant, consider having the cushions laminated after they’re completed. This will allow you to simply wipe off spills with a damp rag, and will keep the patio furniture cushions protected from the weather. Laminating your cushions will cost you a bit more, but it’s well worth the money, considering that it makes your fabric choices virtually limitless, and that it protects your cushions for a lifetime.
