My husband and I just moved into a new home and the previous owners left a very nice wooden bench that I am planning to place alongside my garden. I would really love an outdoor seating area, but can't afford to purchase a new patio set. Does anyone out there have some creative ideas for building an outdoor table to go along with the bench?

yes...you could put together a table with a large garden urn with a sheet of tempered glass. This makes a nice "coffee table" for an informal seating area in your garden.

It is one of those long tables that you might see set up at fundraisers or something . you can fold up the legs so you can transport them. the legs are metal and top plastic. it probably fits about 4 on each side and one on each end. can it be an outdoor table if I paint it and stuff or will it get ruined. what would i do to make it survive outside.

In a dry climate it might outlast you. Humid climates will eat it away (the metal of course).

What would you do with it anyway?

I say go ahead and use it outside.

Maybe a fresh coat of paint on the legs would help (they still might rust from the inside though). Keep the hinges and pivot points lubed with WD-40.

I've got an outdoor table in metal and stone that has been left outdoors for a few years and is very rusty and the metal paint is flaking. Any ideas on how to make the table look respectable again on a budget?

Spray w/ rust remover, wait and hose off.

I recently built myself an outdoor ping pong table. It is not plywood but plybead. This is similar to a composite wood or particle board. The surface is already perfectly smooth. I want to paint and seal the table so it won't warp in various weather conditions. Does anyone know how I can go about doing this without ruining this type of wood?

Go with an Oil base primer preferably one of Benjamin Moores or Sherwin Williams better grade primer/paints. When you prime be sure to get the edges and any groves or crevasses the ply bead may have. Do two good coats of primer on it. The first coat thin it down slightly with paint thinner. Let dry for 12 to 24 hours. This will raise the grain slightly so sand it down with a sanding block after it dries. The second coat should be a regular coat without thinning. Sand again. You can then put a good quality 100% acrylic paint over it or an oil base paint will do just fine. But get a good quality primer and paint because you don't want your hard work and skill to be in vain.

Is it possible to take an inside breakfast table and use it outdoors?

We live in Western Washington where it is cold and rainy, will the table mildew if used on an outdoor deck?

Would we have to seal it with any chemicals?

Most modern tables are made from many pieces of wood glued together. The glue is no water proof. I would expect the table to start coming apart in about 6 months. Between glue failure and the shrinking and swelling from varying moisture content, your table won't stand a chance. You just can't seal it well enough to protect it.
