How do I remove mold from my outdoor furniture cushions? They are made w/ outdoor fabric, yet still have mold
Black and Blue

I live is SouthWest Florida where mold is a major issue.
Is there any way to treat them so they don't continue to get mold
growing on them. It's costing a fortune to continuously replace them.

I had the same problem and found DampRid Mold and Mildew Remover and Protector. It kills the mold that is already existing and prevents it from getting it again. I reapply a couple times during the summer and before I store them for the winter. Mine get hit with the automatic sprinklers everyday. You can find it at the Lowes.

What can I do to get rid of all the squirrels in my yard?
Yado Garden

They are taking over my life here !! One even drowned in my pool yesterday. They have taken apart my brand-new cushions for my outdoor furniture and used stuffing for nests, I guess. They are everywhere !! I live in a town where there is an ordinance against discharge of a weapon, so I can't call a hunter to come get a meal. Help !!

Get a cat, they will take care of them. Also don't leave any food out for them because they will think as you as the food bank!

I need some decorating ideas for a screened in back porch. And the ideas need to be cheap, cheap, cheap!?
Wolford tropical-style garden -- GWA 2010 garden tours

The area is long and narrow, 8 feet by 23 feet. The long front is screened; the two end walls are beige stucco, like house. Ceiling is white. I'm getting a ceiling fan. I have green indoor-outdoor carpet, a bit worn, but okay.
There's a white plastic chaise lounge with green striped cushion and a white plastic table with four chairs. I have place mats and silk tulips on the table. There's one small white plastic table.

I don't love the white plastic patio furniture, but it's all I can afford right now. I want to accessorize and add some wall decor to the stucco, if possible. But what?

I don't have a green thumb, and I live in Florida. I will add some plants and flowers, but need suggestions.

It's hot and humid here. Fabrics fade and mildew. During certain seasons, yellow pollen lies thick as powder over everything. So I have to be practical.

It doesn't have to look like Martha Stewart dropped by, but I do need practical, inexpensive suggestions. Ideas, please!!

Pick a color and stick to it for flowers and other accessories. Add candles in varying heights to the tables. Hang pictures if you like or baskets with plants. You can buy a couple of the 'basket weave' metal trash cans for around $3.00 each. line them with peat moss and add a tall green plant. Put one on either side of the door.

Add a small throw pillow to the chaise lounge.
You can paint the chairs and tables for just a few bucks if you want a change. (dark forest green?)

Add a cheap rug (sisal), a bowl of fruit (oranges - as orange would be a great accent color for your area), a couple of flowering plants (orange inpatients?) , a table cloth in a tropical print of green, orange, yellow, white, and you have a whole new look.

Shop thrift stores and yard sales.

Hope this helps. :)

How should I care for my Pyracantha "red cushion" bonsai tree?
Outdoor Sitting Area

A few days ago, I received a Pyracantha bonsai tree as a gift. The labeling says it is an outdoor bonsai, but the conditions outdoors in some parts of the country/world are a lot different than the conditions outdoors in other parts of the country/world! Also, the tree is apparently supposed to have berries now (in the fall), but it doesn't. The berries seem like the would look very pretty, so I'm hoping I can get them to show up this season.
I live in Illinois, and around this time of year, temperatures usually reach about 40 to 50 degrees Farenheit in the daytime and fall into the 20s or 30s at night. Should I leave the tree outside, even in freezing temperatures? I saw on a website that you're supposed to keep it sheltered during freezes, such as in a garage, but it also needs sunlight (which it can't get in a garage). It's going to be freezing all winter -- where am I supposed to keep it?
If I AM supposed to keep it inside, will it still get berries and flowers?

I keep all my hardy bonsai outside in the winter, they are in a sheltered spot against a building and covered with leaves. Once in a while I check on them to make sure they don't need watered. They are semi-evergreen, so probably won't loose their leaves. If you are worried about it, bring it in when the temps drop below freezing, keep it in a cool sunny place and water it only minimally through the winter,(but don't let it dry out completely) stepping up the watering when it starts to growing in spring. If it puts on flowers in the spring, it should have berries in the fall.

Is this fair??????????????

There are only like 20 something days left until summer vacation! You have NO idea how happy I am to be almost done with school. I hate school. I feel so overworked, and like a robot. I live for school; it's taken over my life.

I'm looking forward to the summer so I can do NOTHING, unlike school in which I was feeling overwhelmed with doing EVERYTHING.

My family doesn't have any plans for vacation, so I was super glad to just hang out and enjoy the time off from school.

However, my mom told me yesterday that I had to decide on activities to do during the summer. She told me I can't just hang around the house. She told me I have to take a sport, she told me I have to volunteer for a couple hours EVERY DAY, she wants me to take a sewing class, and she told me I had to take instrument lessons.

Also, she told me that we are going to be doing many projects this summer and that I am going to help do most of them. (even do some of them by myself) Some projects include painting a bunch of fences, tearing out weeds and planting new grass and flowers, sewing new cushions for our outdoor chairs, etc, etc.

Is this fair that my parents are TELLING me what I have to do during the summer? I was SO looking forward to just laying by the pool, reading, and basically doing NOTHING this summer. It sounds so great to me! (especially since I've been overwhelmed with school)

Please give me your honest feedback. Thanks.

Yes, that seems pretty unfair. Perhaps you should convey that to them. It's your summer vacation, not theirs. o.o
