My husband and I just moved into a new home and the previous owners left a very nice wooden bench that I am planning to place alongside my garden. I would really love an outdoor seating area, but can't afford to purchase a new patio set. Does anyone out there have some creative ideas for building an outdoor table to go along with the bench?
Thanks!
yes...you could put together a table with a large garden urn with a sheet of tempered glass. This makes a nice "coffee table" for an informal seating area in your garden.

A couple of years ago, or a bit more, I found excellent plans for this table in an outdoor/gardening type magazine. My family gets numerous magazines and I really have no idea which ones they got then, perhaps a Reiman publication??
The table was made from joining a couple plywood circles, a "concrete" board circle, and coating this with a pink sealant to make it water proof. 1" tiles were placed around the edge and on top. The legs were made from heavy iron bands that were bent in a jig made from 2x4's and plywood. Instructions for the jig were included.
I've gone through so many old magazines and just can't find it.
Please-answer or advice on an easier search.

I have an old beer-garden table that I want to clean up. It was treated & painted, but it has some rust spots that have come thru. It is at least 40 years old made of some light-weight metal (I don't know what). What is the best stuff to clean & treat this with please? I then want to re-paint it with something? Also it has metal tube legs with open ends. I will put rubber stoppers on these, but should I worry about rust that may be already inside those tube legs? It is special & I want to keep it - came from the OLD Templestowe Pub beer garden - when it was just an old pub.... Ah, yes, memories....
first get rid of all the rust by sanding the whole table. then if it was really rusty at some parts it will be noticed that some metal flaked off, u can use fiber glass to cover up the flaked off parts from the rust. after applying fiber glass to cover up any holes or parts flaked off from the rust sand the table again because the fiberglass will be bumpy but after sanding will be really smooth and look like as if its 1 piece with the table. u can also close the open ends of the tube legs with fiber glass then sand it from the outside it will look like as if it never had an open end. after all that u can paint it, but i think there's special kind of paint u should use u can just ask the any1 that works at the place where ur buying the paint from he would tell u what u need to use to prevent corrosion.
Hope this helps. good luck.

I am going to cut down a Rhododendron tree in the garden and would like to re-use the wood in the garden (e.g. garden chairs, table, bench, etc.)
What seasoning / treatment / etc do I need to carry out on the wood after cutting so that it will not rot or degrade once I have made into garden furniture?
.
cut it into the sections you want, melt some wax and dip the ends and store in a cool dry place for about a year, this prevents checking (cracks) then bark the wood and put together whatever your building and spray or paint on a good wood sealer clear or colored or you could stain it then seal it... good luck...
