the tree releases little dropplets that stain absolutely everything, from plants to cars to furniture. it all becomes black!! the backyard furniture (chair cushions) seem to be permanently stained. tried soap, bleach, peroxide, but nothing removed it.

What you've got is fungus (sooty mold) moving in on aphid droppings.

We just bought a patio set which includes thick chair cushions. They say they have been treated to be water repellant. Do we need to move them every time it rains? What else should I do to protect the padding? Thanks.

The padding is also designed to be fast drying, but if it is going to rain Friday night or Saturday morning and you know you're going to use it Saturday afternoon, it might not dry fast enough for you.

Being water repellent and fast drying are certainly a help, but they still tend to get a bit dirty out there. If I'm not going to be using them during the work week, I take them in and put them back on the weekend. If you notice after a few months that they are not as water repellent as they were, you can buy a spray can of the repellent to renew.

I have a outdoor setting which has plastic cushions on the chairs which have gotten mould on them. What is the best product to use on these to remove the mould? I am concerned that many mould removing products may eat away at the plastic on the covers.

A 10 % solution of household bleach [and water] will be safe and effective in solving your problem.

Let dry in sunlight if possible.

Regularly spray "Lysol" aerosol on the cushions to minimize the return of mold.

It is the airbourne dirt combined with humidity/dampness that provides the environment for mold growth to occur.

I have a new outdoor table and chairs with thick moisture repellent cushions. The problem is that every morning they are wet with dew and I want to keep them dry in the hopes they will look nice longer. I would also like to sit on them in the am but can't. I tried throwing a bedsheet over the entire thing but the sheet was soaked along with the furniture. Would a plastic tarp do the trick or is there something else, other than bringing them indoors every night. I'd like to keep the cushions on the chairs if possible. I'm looking for a simple solution for a lazy person.

Plastic tarp will help especially if it doesn't touch the cushions. You want the saturated air from coming in contact with the cushions which are colder than air temp thus dew on the cushions. Or get a nice looking outdoor box that you can put the cushions in when you come indoors.

We just bought a lake house that is full of 50's or 60's furniture. Everyone seems to be going crazy over it, so we figure maybe we need to sell it on ebay or another website. However we are not sure how much to post it for. The table and chairs are in good condition but the table legs are showing a little age. It comes with 6 chairs and an oval table. Table top and chairs in perfect condition.

There is also a three seat glider and a chase lounger. Both of which are in perfect condition. They have cushions that are perfect not faded at all and the metal is perfect. We are not really into the retro look or we would keep them for ourselves. We thought that we could sell them and put that money towards the remodeling of the place. If you have any idea what these items might be worth, that would be great!

Without actually seeing photo's it can be hard to know. They could be something run-of-the-mill, or something truly worthy. Your best bet is to do some research. You don't want to find out later that you undersold yourself. Although, on eBay, if its something hot the price will climb.
Any easy way to find out if it is something special, is to take photo's and show them to an auctioneer who specializes in mid-century modern for an opinion.
