its so much better! after replacing chairs just about annually -i purchased cast aluminum I've used them for 3 seasons now and they still look new-last year (because of storage issues)they spent the winter outside ...in Connecticut! just a quick rinse with the hose is all the upkeep you really need to do! i now suggest it to all my clients!

I want to get a bistro set for our front courtyard and I don't know which material to pick. I heard cast aluminum is rust resistant and lasts longer. However, I live in a very windy area, and I am afraid it won't be heavy enough. There's too much concrete going on in that area, so I don't want concrete furniture, either. Any opinions or suggestions?

Aluminium is much lighter than cast iron, but you would still need hurricane force winds to shift it. As long as the base of the table is as wide as the top, you shouldn't have any problem with the wind tipping it over. The aluminum is also much easier to move around for rearranging.

we have cast iron and timber outdoor furniture,the wood will be easy to revarnish but the cast iron which use to be dark is now faded and dull,I don't want to paint it because it will either peel off in time or bubble with the sun.How can you bring it up again nicely.I tried to oil it and no different,I thought of boot polish but not sure if it will come off on clothes even if I rub it back.Any suggestions?thankyou.cheers

I have black colored cast iron chairs and a table.
I was wondering if there is any way to stop my outdoor furniture from rusting. The furniture is new...just bought a few months ago and it is already leaving a "ring" of rust on my deck where the umbrella stand sits. I thought there might be some type of coating or spray I could put on the umbrella base so that it does not stain my deck with rust. Does anyone know if such a spray exists? It is just watery "surface" rust, which wipes off for now....but I'd like to stop it from staining up my deck! I would think there would be something (like the clearcoat finish on a car) that could be put over the paint. Any tips?

Rustoleum. Use a rubber floor mat under the stand.
