Where can I find a good sale on outdoor patio (chair and bench) cushions?
2618- Paris, Jardin du Luxembourg, Old man reading in peace

I got a really nice outdoor patio set (3 wooden high-back chairs and 1 high-back bench) from my aunt who was getting rid of them. The only thing I need are cushions...but Im on a pretty tight budget and everywhere Ive looked the prices seem pretty steep. Are there any places that sell all weather-cushions that are reasonably cheap (but at the same time not cheaply made)?

Where can I buy tree trunks to be used as bench chairs for an outdoor childrens classroom that we're planning?
Deck Chairs

We are located in West Lothian, Scotland.
We would like to build an outdoor classroom in our school grounds and thought that treetrunk becnk seats would be a great idea. Only trouble is I have no idea where we could find such a thing. Any help would be most appriciated.

You could try calling your local forestry commission office and ask where they may be cutting and ask if it would be possible for you to buy and or get scraps from them. Or if you have a local cabinet maker...they may be able to help.

Wood outdoor furniture care? I have chairs and a potting bench that are looking shabby. Help?
sports stadium empty seats

What type of product should I put on them and how? They are both stained to look like redwood and are fading and drying out.

Clean them up with an oxyclean and water solution. Either apply and then power wash or apply and then scrub. After cleaning decide if the furniture needs to be sanded.

Then apply an outdoor deck stain. Behr (sold at Home Depot) has a nice redwood stain.

Preparing wood for outdoor use?
Overshadowed

I am going to cut down a Rhododendron tree in the garden and would like to re-use the wood in the garden (e.g. garden chairs, table, bench, etc.)

What seasoning / treatment / etc do I need to carry out on the wood after cutting so that it will not rot or degrade once I have made into garden furniture?

.

cut it into the sections you want, melt some wax and dip the ends and store in a cool dry place for about a year, this prevents checking (cracks) then bark the wood and put together whatever your building and spray or paint on a good wood sealer clear or colored or you could stain it then seal it... good luck...

VERY tricky and unusual situation with a friend? Desperately need advice on what I can say?
shelby

I have a very good friend who is extremely overweight. I think it is over 350 pounds (just to give you an idea). She is an absolutely lovely lady, and a very good friend, and my children are friends with hers, etc.
My only problem is that over the time I've known her, she has broken various items of my furniture, dining chairs, recliner armchair, outdoor seating benches, and also the passenger seat of my car twice.
I can't exactly tell her to stop visiting, or put her off, as she would guess there was a reason, does anybody have ANY suggestions on what I can do to stop having to replace things all the time? All suggestions are welcome, but serious answers only please.
Also, just wanted to add, that as a friend I have thought of encouraging her to undertake a healthier lifestyle (ie, weight loss), but she is perfectly happy with herself (as she should be), so that wouldn't be a good idea. Thanks.

What a difficult problem! This actually happened with my Dad many years ago, at a time he was quite overweight. My sister and her hubby had just bought a new dining setting and Dad sat in one of the chairs and it just collapsed under his weight.

We all teased him a little (not too much because fat people have feelings too!), but what my sis did was go and buy one very good strong plastic chair and whenever Dad came to visit, that is where he was seated. She put a cushion on it etc, and told him that for his own comfort and safety, that was the chair he was to use.

She bought it from a commercial supplier of outdoor furniture, so it was really tough and after that they never had any problems.

As it was plastic and therefore lightweight, Dad would simply move the chair from room to room wherever he went, and bring it to the tv room, the dining table, wherever.

True, it did not match her other furniture, but when guests (not Dad) were there, she could simply put it outside, as it would not matter if it got wet, etc.

As far as your car goes, Dad had to have a special seat installed in his car to carry his weight. It was very expensive, so maybe you should just use her car or a taxi if you go anywhere?

Best wishes and good luck, your friend is fortunate to have a thoughtful friend such as you :-)

Form that Mirrors Function The first step toward crafting your own Zen gateway is to combine form with function. Before you decide what shape your arbor will take, it’s important to identify its purpose.

Traditional archway. The arch is what most people think of when they picture an arbor. It usually stands alone as a garden structure, focusing attention on a particular part of your yard and showcasing climbing plants or flowers.
