When sliding the chairs in and out around the table, will the bottoms/legs scratch a painted concrete patio? We are going back and forth on whether or not to buy a new metal patio set and need to know from people who have this situation...ASAP!
Yes, the powder coating and the metal are both harder than the paint. You might be able to glue some kind of slider on the legs though.

Am feeling in the sunshine mood with the upcoming forecast! We are finally buying a patio furniture table and chair set!
What would you go for in terms of the product lasting - is wooden best - or does they tend to need a lot of maintenance and need covering or they will go mouldy? Or is the metal type ones better - or do they just rust?
What do you think - any experience or ideas much appreciated! Not got a lot to spend - £200 - £250 max for 6 chair one!

I went with metal, my set is 10 yrs old now & still like new. No glass top to worry about breaking by hail etc. It has replaceable plastic feet on the bottom, no rust stains on my patio at all. The chairs are 360 degree swivel. so easy to exit or get into to. They also have springs under the seat for rocking. The set is quite common here, & the chairs are more money for this style, I bought 2 chairs one year, 2 the next year. Outdoors year round, still no signs of rust. Easy to wash also if a bird should happen to leave droppings.

Rustoleum non-yellowing polyurethane for metal or Varathane Non-yellowing polyurethane will clear coat and protect the finish. I would try to also find plastic feet that fit the legs so that it isn't in contact with moisture from the patio. I'v used both products on metal furniture from inside the house, not intended for outdoor use, and the furniture hasn't yet rusted in 5 years.

I saw one of those "Sell this house" programs and they had a white metal patio set.
The "BIG " guy said to paint it black, so they did, no primer nothing, just took black paint and painted it.
Are they right? I want to do the same, should I use a primer?
yes when going from white to black use a primer grey is the easiest to cover it's neutral I bet after few months in the sun that patio set was showing white right throught the black! I'm a contractor and those shows have got me in an uproar , they hardly give enough info. a lot of customers call me saying they tried something they seen on tv and it did'n't work can I help! of coarse I can but, now I have to charge them to tear out what they put in on top of what i normaly charge and the loss of the wasted materials. I went to trade school for three year apprentiship program then spent over 20yrs. in the home building industry you can't replace with a 30 min. tv show.

people are telling me to prime n paint with water n rust proof paint i love the finish thats already on it could i just put something clear on it that would protect it its basically brand new
On the metal, use rust proof paint and cover it well. The glass is already weather proof.
