One day he just flew in to our backyard and just decide to make it home. We stop feeding it for months now and he still wants to stay. He has a tag around one of his legs and I don't know if it has any special meaning. I'm desperate to get him out of my house because I'm tired of him crapping all over the patio and I have to wash it down every other week.

Catch the pigeon.
Read his tag and you will be able to locate his owner.
Please ignore anyone that suggests harming this animal. After all you are the one who made him feel welcome, and hosing down his area is really not the hardest job in the world.

Is it possible to train a beagle not to bite/destory stuffs while I am away from home?

I don't believe in keeping one dog as dogs are pack animals. So, in my opinion, 2 dogs would be better.

I am not a big beagle fan as they are scent hounds and their noses get them into a lot of trouble. It can also cause problems with housebreaking as they are always attracted to the same spot due to the smell (we don't smell as well as any dog, especially a beagle). They also love trash. I have known many pet beagles and they are great dogs but, the families were home with them.

All puppies chew. It is the owners job to make sure they chew on the right things. Don't give this dog shoes or socks as toys (unless they have never been worn). They will associate your scent with chewing.

You can crate train your dog. But, I never liked the idea of a pup (a baby) beening kept in a box for 8 hours a day/ 5 days a week. They can't hold it that long and it is unfair to them. If you have friends or neighbors that can help you while the pup is young, it could work. Having a neighbor walk your pup twice a day while your at work would be great.

For those of you who live or have lived in a patio home, can you give me the pros and cons?

I am single and living alone in an apartment. I'm wanting to buy a patio home when I get my car paid off. I like the idea of living close to people "just in case" something happens. I figured patio homes have to be better than apartment life!

Sorry, I have never heard of a patio home. Is this like a condo or town house? I live in NC, do you live in the states or someother place?

i have called for months and leave several messages and add to that i have lived here for 1 year and they have no meetings and our lawn is maintained, they are holes in the middle of the streets as you come to the entrance.

I don't think that homeowners associations covers patio repairs, they pretty much set guidelines for how you can improve the outside of your house and maintain community landscaping and rec centers. I wouldn't hold my breath for anything to get fixed except maybe the holes in the street.

My wife and I are in the market for a Standard Poodle and we wanted to get a sense as to how a Standard Poodle would deal with living in our nice size town home. We have a very spacious patio, but no actual yard with grass.

We are also avid runners, so the dog would get plenty of opportunity to run outside.

Since you are runners, there is a good chance your dog will get the daily exercise he/she needs, but dogs bred for a job like the standard poodle will need stimulation.

My short answer is a qualified yes.

I strongly disagree with the issue of barking. While some poodles will bark, it is dependent upon the dog, and the temperament of the dog. You generally find a dog of poor temperament will bark often. If your breeder performs temperament tests on the dog, you can get a clear prediction of the dog's personality. Also a good breeder can make it unlikely you will get the wrong dog.

Not all breeders perform this test on their dogs, but you can find out more on the versatility in poodle website. I listed the page below, but if you try to find the information on the home page, it is listed under aptitude test.

If anyone claims the hair color of the dog indicates the poodle's personality, be very skeptical. These dog aren't like labradors, where color of fur makes a difference. A poodle with a stable personality can have any color hair. Also unlike some dogs a poodle doesn't need to be active all the time, but they do like exercise. I need to explain this further.

Some dogs will want to run or be active, and when not active will find something destructive to do. A dog with a good balance of personality will be different. For example, my dog loves to run, and I don't.

My dog will lay quitely if I'm busy around the house. Once he knows that we are going out, he is leaping in the air and running in circles around me. In my city we have wide trails without cars, and I'll ride my bicycle while he will run at my side.

I can be out in the field, and he will swim from 50-100 yards for a bird, and come back wanting more. He will retrieve again and again without a loss of enthusiasm.

When we get home, he will simply lay down and wait for the next chance to have fun. You should be able to expect your dog to know when to exercise with you and when not.

For your patio, just make sure that there is something soft to lay on,and the fence 6 feet tall. Oddly, my dog likes to lay on top of his dog house.

One reminder that you probably already know. Regardless what kind of dog you get, don't start having the dog run with you until the bones are done growing. As I understand, a dog with a developing skeleton can get too much running.

If a person has only 1 dog, they might find it helpful to take their dogs to a dog park weekly to socialize and improve their dog manners.
