we have cast iron and timber outdoor furniture,the wood will be easy to revarnish but the cast iron which use to be dark is now faded and dull,I don't want to paint it because it will either peel off in time or bubble with the sun.How can you bring it up again nicely.I tried to oil it and no different,I thought of boot polish but not sure if it will come off on clothes even if I rub it back.Any suggestions?thankyou.cheers

I have some very nice patio furniture I want put outside next to the pool. The top is mosaic art,and the rest is a dark iron. Will this rust??? Will the chlorine from the pool cause it to rust? If it can what can I do so it won't rust.

It depends on what the metal is... iron will certainly rust outdoors, and this has nothing to do with the chlorine in the pool. If the metal is finished aluminum, it won't rust but there's every possibility the paint or surface color will flake off... that's what is happening to ours and it's on a covered porch. Use a magnet to determine what the metal is.

You need to paint iron lawn furniture that has been left outside, what property of iron makes this necessary? If the paint was chipped, what happens?

Because of oxidation, iron will rust when exposed to water (H2O, found in rain, fog, snow, dew)
If the paint is chipped and iron exposed to the elements, it will again rust.

I have a coffee table that was left outside, not by me, and the veneer has some bubbles. Is there any way to get the finish to lay back down? I was thinking about using an iron, but don't want to make it worse.
No way to fix it.. Try removing the veneer and refinishing the wood underneath.. You have nothing to lose.
