My mom and I would like to plant a garden in front of our house. We have plenty of plantable space, but very little knowledge of gardening! We want a flower garden that is low maitenence. We both have busy schedules, and though we're planning on putting in effort, working on the garden daily would not be possible for us. We are looking to plant perenials and not have to replant every year. We just want a pretty but simple garden that will not require us to spend excess amounts of time working on it. I don't know anything about different flowers with different climates, but we live in central Ohio.

Experienced gardeners: do you have any suggestions for what to plant and how to start?

I live in central Ohio also. Go to Oakland Nursery either in Dublin or in Delaware and talk to someone who works there. They have a huge variety of plants, on sale last I saw. The employees are very knowledgable and will be able to help you.

What can be improved? What problems do you have with your current guardeners?

You have to have alto of stamina.
Depending on type of gardening.
You will do alot of repetitive tasks e.g. clawing, weeding, cutting grass.
Summer grass should be cut once a week. You will need to make enough money during the summer to get thought the winter.

I am 16 years old and I would like some extra cash. I wondered if a gardening business would be good? But the thing is I am scared and embarrassed to ask neighbours if they need anything doing as they know me!
What sort of thing should my business include, as in what jobs should my gardening business offer??

Please help, I would love to earn some extra cash but I dont know what my business should offer or what I should do to get started.

Lawn mowing is a good place to begin. Mower, weedeater, and blower will get you started in this industry. Add other tools as need and budget allow. Go to a tech school and study horticulture. Piece of paper carries a lot of weight with people.

Start small, post signs in the neighborhood, get referrals from friends and family. I started a lawn care service off the referrals my girlfriend's mom gave me. Do a good job for them, and they pass you around to their friends.

Be clean, polite and friendly and punctual. Take any job you can find. And don't hire your friends. They will lose money for you.

it's not easy. My husband's bf does this for a living. The winter you have no business and the summer rain days are a bummer too. I would go work for someone first and get the know how from the business stand point.

me and my friend want to earn a bit of money , and we are both, naturally, quite handy in the garden and can do general tasks such as weeding, mowing, planting and general tidying up etc. is it illegal to hand out flyers and then do this?
i didnt really mean illegal, i just mean is it acceptable and okay to do this? and any tips for the best way about it :) thanks

Absolutely okay. You can tuck them into front doors, post them in businesses that give you permission, and in most areas, staple them to telephone poles.

Just don't put them in actual mailboxes, unless you mail them with postage.

But don't stop there. Talk to your neighbors, and offer your services. If you get even a few customers, I've found word-of-mouth is the best advertising you can get. If your neighbors like your work - they'll tell their friends about you.
