I have a brand new garden furniture set bought this year and not used due to the weather! I covered it and yet now I see there is mould all over it and when I wiped it down there is marks and spots stained where the mould was... How can I get rid of or cover this?
tsp works good for mold and unlike bleach will not harm the wood or raise the grain too much.
Wooden outdoor furniture can be revived by wiping it clean, sanding it smooth with various grades of sand paper and adding a coat of sealant ...
put teak oil or linseed oil on your furniture never put varnish as you will need to strip it every few years hope this helps you
i recently bought a beech coloured hard wood set of patio furniture...it was expensive but i bought it as i liked the colour of the wood.
my husband (when i was out) treated it with 'teak oil'..and it has completely changed the colour...and i now hate it...so as you can imagine..we exchanged a few words!
my husband said it is the correct treatment for the wood...and it has to be treated. anybody know if this is true... are you supposed to coat outdoor wood in teak oil?? thank you for any serious answers.

TEAK oil is a darker colour than beech wood, hence it will obviously darken the colour of "beech coloured hardwood".
To best retain the appearance of light coloured woods, I recommend a clear water-based exterior varnish. There are many brands on the market these days, your local hardware store will advise. Oils are good for wood, but they generally darken the colour initially, with the added disadvantage of not sealing the wood from staining by just about anything else. Try washing it off with caustic soda and bleaching it to get the original colour back. (Well, let him do it to retrieve the relationship. hehehe)

teak it a wood that is used on sailboats and water doesnt have any adverse affect on it. it does have an oily sap so that is why it lasts so long.teak wont warp like oak or maple.
I am looking for an attractive, sturdy easy to clean & look after table & chairs for my garden. (possibly one thats seats 6 people) However, do not want to spend a fortune, can anyone recommended where i should go for this, i.e Argos, Robert Dyas etc I have never brought garden furniture before, so need to know whats good & whats not! Plastic doesn't wear too well. My favourite garden furniture is the wooden type. It lasts for years if you apply some wood oil to it once a year & it looks lovely. It can be expensive, but I got my set from my nearest IKEA store (www.ikea.co.uk) & it was cheaper than some plastic sets I've seen in garden centres etc!
