Wooden garden table & chairs, is getting very wet through the rain, is this going to ruin it?
Yado Garden

I've only just brought this set from Robert Dyas (UK), haven't used it, need a pvc type cover for it. However, will it be too late to take of this hardwood, now its been wet or can i still treat it & cover it when the weather is dry!! Typical british weather!
what i meant to say will it be harder to take care of this type of hardwood now its been soaking wet

Your furniture will be fine, cover it over as soon as possible so it doesn't get any wetter, if you can move it into a garage or shed and let it dry slowly (If it dries too quickly you may get small cracks). Once it has dried out makes sure the wood is clean by rubbing down with wire wool and white spirit, then give it a couple of coats of teak oil. This will bring back its colour and help keep it waterproof in future. You will need to reapply the teak oil every year (Autumn) or twice a year if left out in the winter (Spring and Autumn)...

Garden Furniture Table, chairs & a parasol, dont know whether to go for wood or glass & metal or plastic?
(Untitled)

I am looking for an attractive, sturdy easy to clean & look after table & chairs for my garden. (possibly one thats seats 6 people) However, do not want to spend a fortune, can anyone recommended where i should go for this, i.e Argos, Robert Dyas etc I have never brought garden furniture before, so need to know whats good & whats not! Thanks

Plastic doesn't wear too well. My favourite garden furniture is the wooden type. It lasts for years if you apply some wood oil to it once a year & it looks lovely. It can be expensive, but I got my set from my nearest IKEA store (www.ikea.co.uk) & it was cheaper than some plastic sets I've seen in garden centres etc!

Whats best, a picnic bench or table and chairs for the garden?
(Untitled)

Also can you leave a picnic bench outside all year? does it need some sort of cover?

What's best for you depends on where you live and how much you want to spend. For me cost is a big issue, and frankly, you can get some great furniture at stores like Lowes or even Walmart for the lowest price possible. Here is what to look for:

Light weight: You'll need to move it around for cleaning or rearrangement, or even to store for winter, so avoid heavy iron or steel or large wood pieces.

Easy to clean: Glass table tops or similar hard surfaces that won't stain look better over time than wood which bleaches or shows rings. Buy only what you can clean with the garden hose.

Avoid wood: For furniture that says out in the sun and rain, wood is not the best choice. It will discolor, crack, warp and lose its beauty quickly if exposed each day to the elements. If you want to build a picnic table yourself, use the new composite lumber made out of recycled plastics. Though it is heavy, it lasts forever, doesn't get splinters and takes extremes of hot and cold, wet and dry.

Exploit cushions: Bright fabric cushions can turn a poor looking chair, chaise or love seat into a real fashion statement in the garden. Cushions also protect you from a seat that has turned very hot or cold due to extreme weather. Cushions are the universal problem solver you can sew yourself or buy cheaply at discount stores.

Hammerite Paint Can this be used to paint my garden cast iron table and chairs.?
Horns and dead flowers

Its gone rusty and off colour and i would like to paint it if possible rather than throwing it out

Smoothrite is also available for a nicer finish.
Use a wire brush and remove dust before painting.

Home Is Where The Attic's At : The first book I ever wrote was in second grade. I probably would have started it in first grade, but I couldn’t write yet, so I waited until I’d conquered the fundamentals of writing ABCs before I started the novel. I wrote in pencil on newsprint. It was a story about a girl and a boy who ride their horses from Patagonia to Alaska—or that was what it was supposed to be about. I don’t think the book got much past the whole packing the gear part and leaving home, but you know, it’s almost as hard to leave home... Winter Lover Come, lie down against my breast. Don’t speak again for only I can hear above the slow breath...

Early bird catches the worm! | The House Dressing Company

Well, here we are enjoying daylight saving again!  Hooray!  Doesn’t that one hour make a difference though!  Getting up in the morning is a little harder, but it’s so nice to have that extra light in the evening.  I’m looking forward to warmer days when I can go home from The House Dressing and get into my garden for a couple of hours, eat outdoors and enjoy walks in the warm summer evenings.  I’m also looking forward to summer style eating and cooking again.  How about you?  I know it’s still a couple of months yet before we will be enjoying some real warmth, but with the flowers bursting forth and the birds beginning to nest, it feels like it’s just around the corner!
