Teak is very hard and can withstand the weather very well. The oil puts back the natural oil that gets soaked up by the sun, every couple years or when it starts looking light colored apply a liberal coat. Good luck Les the painter

I'm looking at both Brazilian cherry and Teak furniture and was wondering which one is better. I've noticed that Teak furniture is more expensive. Any advice?

not sure about the cherry but the teak will last a lilifetime. it has natural oils in it that keeps it from rotting. and insects do not like it at all. it will turn a nice shade of gray if you do not put a finish on it. hope this helped with half of your question

You should get some teak oil from B & Q or similar shop and thoroughly coat your furniture. Ideally it should be put in a shed if you have room but if not it then wants covering with some thick polythene, or a proper cover.

Many opinions seem to exist. What are the pros and cons of:
1. just teak oil only every 6 months
2. going for marine grade teak oil (is this better?)
3. using a natural decking oil in steak of teak oil for a longer lasting result
3. using a combination stain and varnish

Teak wood doesn't need to have anything done to it. In my experience it's better to leave it alone. It weathers beautifully.

Yes you can but it all depends on how dry it is, Tongue oil is usually applied to keep natural. IF its completey free of oils
light sand prime then apply 2 coats of finish paint.
On the other hand if its faded just lightly sand it and try the tounge oil, will last for a long time and look more exspensive than a painted table etc.
