I'm moving some wicker furniture from inside to my deck. There are some slip-covered cushions as part of the pieces, but i don't think the fabric is very weather resistant. Can i treat the fabric somehow to handle rain, sun, etc or should i just have new cushion covers made?
You have two choices. You can use a scotchguard product that comes as a spray on application available at Target, Wal-Mart and camping stores, like REI. I've had limited success with these products because they do not resist mildew.
The second choice is to use a water-proofer in the washing machine. Since the cushions are slip covered, you can remove the fabric from the cushion material. Spray the cusion material with the scotchguard. Put the fabric covers in the washing machine on the soak cycle and put the water-proofing solution in the water according to the directions on the bottle. (you'll find it marketed under several brand names in the laundry aisle at Wal-Mart and also at camping stores where it is used to waterproof sleeping bags, tennis shoes, etc.) Soak overnight and then spin load without allowing the machine to go through either the wash or rinse cycles. The product is heat set, so run the covers in the dryer at the lowest setting to avoid shrinkage.
If you do decide to have new covers made, Sunbrella makes the best fabric I've ever seen hold up to sun, doesn't fade or mildew, won't stain, can be wiped off with a damp sponge and is almost indestructible. It also has the best choice of fabrics, both patterns and solids, I could find. They don't just have that ugly circus stripe in green, yellow and blue...

Its a couple of years old so it is NOT under warranty. I didn't know if there was a specific number or if anybody had success replacing just the seat cushion covers for a specific model of couch. Thank you
check to see if ashley still makes a sofa lke that with that fabric or can get that fabric for an upholsterer to put on...if not, you may can find the fabric at a fabric store,,if not, look at some swatches from lazboy at a furniture store and maybe they will sell you some fabric if they have a match, but dont take up hours of the salesmans time trying to find something that probably dont exist...or,,show your fabric to a few upholsterers and maybe they know where to get it.
good luck.

cushions? The cushion covers are of a removeable heavy weight cotton fabric over a foam type material covered in batting. The furniture is kept in a covered, screened in area which does get damp when it rains. I have removed the covers and have washed them with detergent and bleach but after a couple of weeks the mold and mildew return. I was wondering if there was a product out there that can be sprayed on like a scotch-guard type product which will prevent and/or protect the cushions from the mold and mildew?
I spray all of my outdoor cushions with DampRid Mold & Mildew Remover and Preventative. It not only kills the mold spores, but it puts down a resistant protective barrier which keeps it from growing again. I also hit both sides with scotchguard after I spray the DampRid just so that if people spill something on them it will bead up and not stain. My cushions are exposed to the weather from Memorial Day to Labor day rain or shine. I haven't had any problems with mold or mildew since I started using these two products. I get them in the cleaning aisle at Lowes and both are under $5

My kids have knocked my throw pillows in the floor I don't know how many times and spilled drinks on them. They've spilled drinks on the cushion, and my puppy has had 2-3 accidents and peed on them.I soaked it up asap, and wiped it off.Except for the throw pillows, everything has a zipper,so you can take them off.I want to wash them, spray the cushions down with lysol, and frebreeze, while I have the covers off.I don't know if I should just pat at the stains, handwash them,or put them in the washer.I have thought about taking them to the laundry mat and put them in the huge front loader,so it would all fit.I figure I'd be better to hang dry them, and then toss them in the dryer with a bunch of fabric softener sheets just till hot,to soften them up,and help make them smell good.I'm afraid if I dry them in the dryer they'll shrink. Can anyone advise me here.Would this be ok,and what temp should I wash them on ? Its not leather,or micro fiber, its like a plaid.
I just did my livingroom furniture. I took the pillow stuffing out of the zippered ones...be sure to zip up the covers...then washed them on cold in a normal wash...or you can wash on delicate..not sure what your material is..just do not put a lot of covers in the machine...use normal sized load setting, but only small amount of covers because they are much heavier than normal clothing. Another reason not to put too many in one load is that it will be too hard on the material in the washer. As for the pillows...I opened a seam on each of my throw pillow covers...took out the stuffing and washed these on delicate...I do not know what to tell you about yours as some material will unravel..mine was fine, but I don't want to say about yours. I hung mine outside to dry and then when almost dry I tossed them into the dryer on air fluff for ten or fifteen minutes. Once I got the pillows all back into their covers, I took them outside and sprayed them well with scotch guard which is a product I really like.
Ok so I just bought a couch and a loveseat off craigslist for $40 (woohoo!) but they have some stains on the seat cushion covers...which are removable (they unzip off). Should I attempt to throw them in the wash, or does anyone have any good stain removal tips for fabric? Thanks so much!
It depends on the fabric as to if they can be thrown in the wash. I know this sounds smelly but I have had wonderful results with spraying stains with white vinegar and water. I spray the whole cushion so I don't get water rings and blot the stain until it comes out. Then I cover with towels and sit on them. I have a two year old grand son 3 cats and two dogs and don't have any stains or pee smells and my sofa has been peed on multiple times.. The vinegar does smell but it goes away when it's dry and actually removes odors.

Make Your Own Cushion Covers
Folks have a propensity have different types of furnishing in their homes but without reference to of the type, cushions are a sometimes accepted part of it. They are actually handy and at the same time, they also boost the style rating of your furniture and furnishing. Similarly you can work on good cushion covers to make them look even better.
It is a rather easy task to create cushion covers by yourself. There’s no need of very creative perception and basic sense of design and color should suffice. You can use some very straightforward axioms and tricks which should make your cushion covers look way better than what you should be expecting.
One of the simplest things that you can do to design your cushion cover is use buttons. All you need is a few buttons in different shapes and sizes, a needle and thread. Stitch the buttons on to the cover in random or abstract patterns. The more variety you have in buttons, the better it is going to be. You will just opt for slightly decorative buttons. In case, you are good with the thread and needle you could need to make a pattern from buttons.
