We are thinking of getting new deck furniture, and I love the comfort of the ones where the chairs have thick padded pillows for the seats and the back. Do the pillows have to be brought inside when it rains? I am concerned about mold developing in them if I leave them outside. What's your experience with them?
Out door furniture is able to be left out for the summer season, however, should be taken in at the onset of autumn.
The cushions are fabricated to withstand some dampness, but should be popped into a covered area if rain is comming. Shed or just inside your door. They must be taken in for the winter.
Yes, they will develop mildew. I am dealing with this now.

Just opened up my umbrella for my deck furniture and noticed all kinds of mold and mildew. The material is a dark tan so I can't bleach it but want to get rid of the dirt and mold and green moss. It would be hard to scrub the fabric so maybe something that I can spray and then hose down?

I use the DampRid Mold and Mildew cleaner and protector for fabrics available in the cleaning aisle at the Lowes. I've used Krud Kutter before and it works to clean off the mildew and algae green stuff, but it does not protect the fabric from having more mildew grow (like if you put the umbrellas down during rain and high wind). The DampRid kills the root of the mold and mildew, then leaves a residue that keeps it from growing again. I have 4 umbrellas out there and treat them at the beginning and end of each season, now I don't open them up to grossness any more.
Kids bought a cast iron swing set and lawn chair for my deck. When precipitation accumulates in the pipe frames, it leaves rust under where the furniture sits. Is it possible to treat the insides of the pipes with something to stop that?
Can I treat the metal to cut down on the rust giveaway?
You can get rid of the rust stains with CLR or Lime-Away.

I live in upstate NY and below freezing weather and snow is common in winter.
I leave vynal plastic furniture outside in midwest winters. I haven't had any problems with it although I am sure it will tend to shorten the life of the items. A word of caution ... freezing temperatures causes the plastic to become "brittle" and it may fail if you sit on it in very cold temperatures. It regains it's pliability and strength when the weather warms up. I learned this the hard way.
