how to secure deck bench into concrete patio?
the beer garden

we have a concrete patio with a roof. we would like to install deck rails to enclose the whole thing. this will be simple since we can attach them to the roof support poles. But, we would like to build in deck benches to the rails around the patio. Shouldn't there be some more security to the benches then other than the rails being attached to the roof poles/house? should we attach the deck benches into the concrete patio at certain points? how would we do that?

Contact your local hardware store etc.. You can use concrete anchors to secure them to the concrete patio. They are fairly easy to install.
look at The Learning Channel and DIY network websites they have helpful tips too

How would i secure a wood bench to a concrete patio?
My backyard garden

I have a bench which i have just made and would like to know how to do this.

Use some sturdy angle brackets and screw tightly to the bench, then use 1/4 or 3/8 inch concrete anchor bolts. You may need a hammer drill. Depending on the concrete you might get by with good drill and percussion/concrete bit.If your short on space you can mark out the angle brackets and fasten those down first then screw them to the bench, just make sure their in the correct spot.Good Luck

What is the best way to clean a concrete porch ,patio andf walkway with these stains?
Hungry for the sun

Porch is covered above but is on north side of house so it tends to get a slight green moss film in spots. Same with walkway. The patio has an oil stain from the grill and rust marks from a cast iron park bench.
I don't have time to rent a power washer but eventually will have to, just wanting to know what can be used in the meantime to give it a general cleaning and remove the spots- especially the rust. CLR tried on one of the rust spots only turned that spot whiter than when new, so not much more attractive than the rust stain. Anything you have tried that works for a great general cleaner?
House and all concrete age- 9 years. It's very nice concrete with the walkway, large porch and patio all having been troweled with a nice texture. We have been told due to our bizarre roof line and the porch side facing north, and with another part of the house sticking out on the west side, it getsa only a tiny amount of morning sun and that's what causes to green algae. It's not a drainage issue thank goodness.

You could use a general de-greaser on the grease spots and try some 409 on the rest of the surfaces. Use the hose to wet an area down, spray with the 409, then use a big push broom as a scrub brush, then spray off the 409.

What colors are best for my humble patio furniture?
empty pond

I am moving into a home with a cute little side, covered patio. It is rectangular with several small trees on the side. Nothing special. Just some concrete and a wood cover. I currently own some nice deep green plastic chairs and a white bench with table. What colors would you recommend spray painting them? All the same color or separate? Dark wicker planters, stone planters, and a medium stone waterfall will be coming with me as well. Thank you!

Either match the green or beige, white shows dirt so much. If they are nice and pretty now then don't spray paint them until the need to have a nice little touch up to look new again. Does the wood cover need to be treated yet? If so, a nice red cedar finish with the other stuff painted to match would look good.

What to do?
Plano Tx Patio Installed

I have 2 ugly concrete benches on my patio. I want to paint them or something. Any ideas?

I am no fan of painted concrete as you will need to repaint them more often than you most likely would want to do. If you do paint them be sure to etch the surface with muratic acid to help the paint adhere. Check with your local paint store for advice on what exactly to do.

  • it continues…

We are at the end of day 10 of construction, it is taking longer than I hoped.  Well, of course it is.  I’d hoped it would be a couple days and then everyone would leave and I’d get to start picking plants.  Um… not.  I started out taking lots of pics every day, then I realized that day 6 did not look much different than day 7 and I just took one pic a day.   They are doing a lot, there are delays waiting for the concrete, or the electrician or the plumber but work has been steady.  I can’t believe the long days, the workers get here before 8am, if I open the door at 7:30 or 7:45, they are outside waiting.  They don’t leave until 5pm and they don’t take much of a lunch.
