Lawn & Garden equipment, Is there any way to compare a horsepower rated engine to one rated in cc's?
New Honda F220A garden tiller

some small equipment has the engine power defined by cc, some use horspower. What is a good comparison rule?

Discounts on used garden equipment.?
Blackhawk - Head-On

Found a Garden Tractor Mower at Sears Warehouse Outlet, the unit is used, has not been cleaned up. They want to sell the unit at 30% off the orginal selling price. The problem I have is that the tag on this unit shows that the tractor has been reduced in price twice now, yet they want to go back to the orginal price when it was new, this one is used and shows it. There are other tractors with less horse power that are new, and have been reduced to almost the same price as the one I would like to purchase. Does anyone have advice, besides walk away ?
I don't know for certain how long they plan on keeping the 30% on this tractor and other tractors for sale. They are offering 30 to 50% discounts on all the items they have in the warehouse until June 8-2007.

i' say get the new one because with the old one you really don't know how the people that used it treated it and plus new means that it should hold up longer with out any problems mechanical wise plus the new one looks better right? and plus what do you plan on doing with the tractor that you would need that extra bit of horsepower?
so i say get the new one definitely especially since it is almost the same price

*hope this helps! *

What causes a carbureted motorcycle to be so hard to start, whenever it is just mildly cool (< 60 deg. F.)?
New Honda garden tiller

Whenever it is cooler than 60 or so F., it is very difficult to start without wetting the spark plugs. Other carbureted four-cycle small engines that use the same aspirated carburetion principle (except having 1 for the whole engine instead of 1 per cylinder, for performance reasons) and the same ignition principle (a single-electrode spark plug) on snow blowers, garden tractors, air compressors, generators, etc. that are designed to be routinely used in much colder weather are so easy to start in much colder weather, some without electric starters, and with no starting fluid (ether) sprayed into the intake. Is it because the Japanese have them geared so low that they then have to run at high RPM's and thus have to have low-temperature-range spark plugs, so that at operating speed in summer weather you don't start to get detonation, which more-easily damages aluminum pistons vs. the steel ones in small-engine power equipment?

If small-engine power equipment were always this hard to start in just mildly cold temperatures, not many people would buy them.
1994 Honda Magna 750cc (the new style V-4 engine, not the V-45) (or, what Honda simply calls a "VF750C"). The choke is manually operated.

Cold fuel vaporizes very slowly, so when starting a cold engine, a very rich fuel/air ratio is needed. When the engine warms, so does the fuel going into it, so the choke can be released. Many newer carburated engines have automatic chokes, so it may not seem apparent. An no, it isn't due to it being a Japanese engine. Before widespread fuel injection, autos had automatic chokes. You had to depress the gas pedal to the floor to engage it. Before that, there was the choke knob you had to pull in order to crank a cold engine.
Here is a link to a very nice explanation.
Great question.

  • IOG Saltex Show review 2009: Landscape and garden expert

I have to begin this review by declaring an interest – I am one of the organisers of The Hard Landscaping Show and World of Paving – but I will do my best to present an impartial view of this well established show, writes Steven Callaghan.

Whilst both exhibitor numbers and visitor numbers were down on previous years, the organisers should feel satisfied with the turnout they achieved , said to be 9,000non days 1 and 2, in what has been a very difficult year with few if any events escaping a downsizing of at least 25%.

The weather obliged on all 3 days and the general organisation of the show was good, plentiful free parking was effectively marshalled so getting in and out was no problem and with plenty of bodies on registration this was also dealt with efficiently.

There was a good range of food and refreshments on display, good coffee and enough seating available everywhere to make it always easy to rest one's aching feet for a few minutes – the show is spread out over a very big area, perhaps a little too spread out, and walking for the most part on uneven ground is tiring.
