I have a hydroponic system using rockwool slabs and a drip irrigation system. I wanted to know if anyone knows of an inexpensive and simple way to collect the drainage and pump it back into the tank. The tank is not under the system so i would need something with a backflow preventer and a pump.
How do I attach the tube to the rockwool slabs?
You need a submersible pump and a hose. That would take care of all your problems. They range in price between $20 and $115 and you can get them at any hydroponics store or online. The price difference is due to the power and the clerk should be able to tell you what you need for your size tank and the height that it's in. Hook it up to an electric timer to drain as needed.
Don't forget to aerate your water as well so if you don't have one, buy an Air stone and Air pump as well. Again, you can find them online very cheap.
Good luck.

What plants are in season to be used in a hydroponic system. Preferably easily grown plants. Any non exotic plants will be fine.
I live in south texas although they will be grown inside.
If its inside and a fairly warm place like Texas, there is no season. You are creating you own season.

I recommend "Hydroponic food production: A definitive guidebook of soilless food growing methods" which you can buy online from Amazon or other book stores. It is available from Woodbridge Press and has ISBN # 0880071540.
Go to Amazon.com and search for that ISBN.

Acually i want to make it by my own , i dont want to buy a kit from a company , So whats the equipment and how can i assemble them and the start?
You can start with a very good kit. This company has cheap hydroponic starter kits. Am not affiliated nor have stocks in this company, only that they were recommended highly by credible friends:

The pics would show that you can do most of it with pails and pump. The starter kit is really nice.
I'm doing a science project and need to know how to build a home-made hydroponic and a homemade aeroponic system. Links and sources with instructions and pictures are welcomed. Thank you so much.
Try this WEB site for the aeroponic system http://www.howtohydroponics.com/. I made my own hydroponic system using the following:
1 - 8' length of 6" PVC
1 - 8' length of 4" PVC
2 - 6" PVC caps
2 - 4" PVC caps
1 - 4" piece of 1/2" PVC
1 - fish tank air pump
3' of plastic air pump tubing
1" piece of 1/8" plastic pipe
(air pump tubing will be inserted over this pipe)
18" of clear plastic tubing
1. Build a stand out of cement blocks, or wood that will act as a stand for the PVC pipe. The stand will hold both pipes one above the other. The bottom pipe will be the 4" PVC.
2. Drill a 1/2" hole about a1/4" from the outer edge of one of the 4" caps and another near the outer edge of the 6" cap.
3. Cut the 1/2" PVC in half making two, two inch lengths
4. Insert and glue the two lengths of 1/2" pipe into the holes you drilled into the caps, and allow to dry.
5. Drill a 1/8" hole a three or four inches from the end of the 4" PVC, and glue the 1/8" pipe into the hole and allow to dry.
6. lay the 4" pipe in the stand and glue the caps on each end of the pipe. The cap that has the 1/2" pipe in it goes on the same end of the pipe that the 1/8" hole is on. When gluing the cap on the pipe be sure that the 1/8" hole is at the top of the pipe and the 1/2" hole is at the bottom.
7. Cut out, with a coping saw, a slot, about 3", or so wide down the 6" length of PVC. Do not make one continuous cut. Start, and stop about 2" from the ends and leave a 3" wide uncut piece in the middle for strength.
8. Place the 6" PVC into the stand with the slot you cut out at the very top of the pipe (this is where your plants are going to go).
9. Glue the end caps onto the 6" PVC. The cap with the 1/2" PVC pipe in it goes directly above the 4" pipe, and like the 4" pipe, the cap must glued on the pipe with the 1/2" pipe outlet at the very bottom of the pipe.
10. Connect the top and bottom pipes with the length of 1/2" clear plastic tubing.
11. Connect the air pump tubing to the air pump and the 1/8" inlet on the 4" PVC pipe.
12. Fill the 6" pipe (3/4 full) with plastic chips, or river pebbles, or any other small inorganic material.
13. place about 2 to 2 1/2 gallons of water on top of the inorganic material. You'll be able to see the water flowing thru the clear plastic tubing from the 6" pipe into the 4" reservoir.
14. turn on your fish tank air pump, and watch the water flow back into the 6" growing area. Make sure that both the 4" and 6" PVC pipe are on a slight pitch (1/4") towards the end with the plastic tubing.
I plug my air pump into a timer, like the ones you would use to turn your house lights on and off. You can add any kind of water soluble fertilizer you want depending on what your growing. - Good Luck

Home Made Ebb and Flow or Flood and Drain system. DIY Hydroponics ...
HydroponicsFriend.com This is my first attempt at building my own Hydroponics growing system. So far it works great! I chose the Ebb and Flow because It appeared to be one of the simplest to build. This is constructed mostly of things I had around the house. A used laundry detergent bucket, well washed of course. A Ziploc disposable food container. Aquarium air pump. Tabletop fountain water pump. I had to purchase one foot of tubing, Hydroton pellets, and Net Pots from a Hydroponics store …
Here’s how I ran this one. Different people will have different advice but this is what worked for me. Lights come on at 7am shuts off at 11pm.. Pump also turns on at 7am then again at 11am, 3pm, 7pm, 11pm, ever 4 hours while the lights are on. The pump runs for half an hour each time. 15 minutes would be ok but I have a couple cheap timers for this system that only do half hour settings. Hope this helps. Have Fun!
You can build a system without circulating the water but then it wouldn’t be an Ebb and Flow.
